@uuuz
indeed, just the lobby had the blurry fonts - in game and console fonts were back to a crisp look.

#2 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 Plus » 2024-04-23 09:25:28

hi tuia,
thank you - that works like advertised now. silly me i've forgot that step.

@uuuz: without register the dll theres no additional verstion-string in lobby. so it's ignored by the game in general. after the winecfg step the version string shows up and the former crisp fonts are getting a bit squishy/blurry. came across this by a misconfiguration of my widescreen setting - i guess.  thats an old quirk - possibly due to the fact that i love to play that game on 1440x900 instead of the original 4:3 blown up to widescreen proportions - no biggie tho.

regarding the weather situation: one of the latest fhsw updates brought independent weather to the maps. you walk around in woods and theres a rly damp atmosphere and as soon you're in the open it clears out visibly. or local rain squalls - very cool - but fps takes a massive dive.

#3 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 Plus » 2024-04-21 22:10:36

hi uuuz,
wine player here - i've put the dll in the correct directory and fired the game up - but bf42plus.ini doesen't get created. that leads to the question: does it work correctly under the wine-emulator?

#4 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 is 20 » 2022-09-22 09:17:25

coming late to the party - its not just that our beloved bf1942 turned 20 - the hardcore player base did that twenty year round too. thats quite a stretch of time - that coincidentally spawns over the advent of FPS games and the bf-franchise particularly.

in this regard: happy twenty years down the road. U guys are a terrific bunch.

and special thanks to tuja and other server-admis to keep that gem alive.

to all distro hoppers: rolling releases - gentlemens - will put an end to hoppin around.

#10 Re: Technical Help » Drauger / Linux OS - Installation and installing Battlefield 1942 » 2021-09-15 19:16:39

jorgen,
u sure replaced that path_to_wineprefix to some directory like "~/wineprefixes/BF1942-HD" - right?

my bad, it looks like ubuntus multi-lib environment is still meh... and a working bf1942 installation depends on a lot of lib32 stuff that needs to get installed too.

#11 Re: Technical Help » Drauger / Linux OS - Installation and installing Battlefield 1942 » 2021-09-15 13:02:51

theres no such thing like wine32. u tell wine to use its 32-bit stuff by

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=path_to_wineprefix winecfg

and while ur at it: see that "usefull" lib32 things got installed along too, like lib32-mesa,lib32-pulse, and so on.

https://www.winehq.org/ has all the infos.

PoL is just a frontend to wine, why not read up wine-stuff first?

wineprefix: that practically ur former win-installation. one game goes into one wineprefix. dont mingle it. if something goes south, just delete that wineprefix and start over.

Virtualising wouldn't be good for what these guys are trying to achieve.

that depends on hw nowadays. a hurtig enough pc will run bf1942 in a  vm just fine.

to arkos: disto hopin to solve a particular problem, ngmi. work from that distribution ur most familiar with. every linux distri on the market is able to run the wine plus bf1942 combo perfectly.

output of "inxi -Gxxxz" from a terminal would be great.

#13 Re: Technical Help » Drauger / Linux OS - Installation and installing Battlefield 1942 » 2021-09-11 16:24:16

why not share ur hw specs, pls? that'll help zee community at large.

just to recap: task at hand is to install bf1942 on a (allready running) linux box or in some vm?

#14 Re: Off-Topic » Cinema and good movies » 2021-08-17 17:30:36

The rating of this film is 6.699 of 10. The film director has a reputation of a bungler. Everything below 8 is not usually worth to watch.

ive enjoyed it - 8/10.

#15 Re: Off-Topic » Cinema and good movies » 2021-08-16 20:46:45

recent events made me stumble over that movie:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_9th_Company

The 9th Company (Russian: 9 рота, romanized: 9 rota) is a 2005 Russian war film directed by Fedor Bondarchuk and set during the Soviet–Afghan War. The film is loosely based on a real-life battle that took place at Elevation 3234 in early 1988, during the last large-scale Soviet military operation (Magistral) in Afghanistan. It received generally positive reviews from critics.

somehow i can easily stomach cheaters, trolls and tk'rs - roghly in that order. Deliberately wrecking a map - meh.

#17 Re: BF1942 Discussion » What happened to the AX server » 2021-06-27 08:52:25

the modus operandi of aX is almost perfect, less the fact that death-bubbles got exploited by some1 with an agenda. gazala turned into an unplayable mess. had to take a break.

#18 Re: Technical Help » Anyone using the Waterfox Browser? » 2021-06-27 08:39:59

no technical advise,but:

It appears that the Waterfox web browser has been sold to System1 recently, the same company that bought the Startpage search engine some time ago. To be precise, Startpage was bought by Privacy One Group Ltd which System1 owns. System1 is an advertising company that tries to "make advertising better and safer, while respecting consumer privacy".

the audience eagerly awaits more dogfighting flicks - to put it more bluntly: "THE ultimate Dog Fight"

#23 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Origin? » 2013-10-02 08:37:23

Origin = origin.exe

and that sums it up allready. The whole thing was a clever move to push origin.exe out.
