Kicked to desktop, config deleted

I just got kicked to the desktop, and all my movement keys gone. Not reset to default just deleted.
This is the first time this has ever happened in however long I have been playing BF1942 and I can't thing of any reason except maybe hacking or something.

Anyone know why this could have happened?

kicked to desktop - thats an euphemism for a crash - ill take it? as far i know, config files getting re-written at each "correct" game shutdown. that crash might left you in a state of no *.con-files at all. and microsoft is known to let old time game gamers to jump through some hoops. backup the *.con files next time? or switch to an operating system that doesnt do shady things behind your back.
