Battlefield 1942 Plus is a collection of patches to the game created by uuuz, which improve and fix some of the issues with Battlefield 1942. A significant patch is a fix to a recurring crash when the game is minimized. Also, the game no longer switches back resolutions when loading intro videos, menu and game windows, the resolution is the same and can be set. As well as, fixing the ping display to correctly show up to 3 digits in the scoreboard. In addition, you will be able to reconnect faster to the server when there is a map change. There are several other fixes and enhancements listed in the Battlefield 1942 Plus page, check it for more information.
This is an ongoing project, several other enhancements are being worked on and planned to be added later.
To install it, you download dsound.zip file from the Releases page, extract it and just place dsound.dll file in your Battlefield 1942 directory. The game will be patched in memory, when you launch it, and the dll file has the option to update itself when a new version is available.
Definitively recommend, uuuz did a great job

I did put this patch up in my game, really nice patch super fast map change I was always the last one to connect after map change now Im sometimes first
I got frozen screen ingame for 2 seconds (one time, played for 2-3.hours), and pink screen one time when map did change for 2.sec or so, no big deal.
Nice to see players real ping for once.
I never use ALT + TAB so I have not tested that yet. "Fix crash when the game is minimized"
All in all I recommend this patch.
Nice work uuuz.
Thanks for the release, looking forward to test it!
These are all excellent additions. Perhaps an exception could be made for the custom DLL in PB servers so that clients running the patch dont get kicked.
Colored buddies would be awesome and help a lot for wars.
In terms of accessibility, it would be nice if all these additions were bundled in a community patch (perhaps bf v1.613) and made available through a simple installer. There have been a lot of nice additions over the years.

Does this mean I don't have to switch my resolution every time i exit the game? If so, I'm sold!

Whoa whoa... it's 2024.

This is absolutely impressive work, and the way of implementation is surprising. I couldn't imagine that a single dll file in game folder can bring such complicated changes. Great job!
All of the mentioned in Readme fixes and enhancements work fine. However, now there is no "is no more" message in the centre of the screen after you die on your own or suicide

Yes, the game shouldn't mess with desktop resolution and the window size of other running programs anymore.
However, now there is no "is no more" message in the centre of the screen after you die on your own or suicide
This is intentional. If you get teamkilled the "xy killed a teammate" message is displayed on the center, but it is immediatedly overwritten with your "yourname is no more" death message. I removed the "... is no more" messages from the center field, so now you can see who teamkilled you.
Great work uuzz and I appreciate your precious time on these fixes.
This is a completely random question but have you ever thought about trying to enable the dormant weather system code in bf1942? Apache Thunder was the first to do it with the cloud system. He has mentionned in some old post on BF Mods that the next easiest weather effect to have the potential to be enabled would be the lens flares system as a lot of the code is still there. Is there any possibility to bring it back along with other weather effects perhaps?

I haven't really looked at the graphics part of the game. I was mostly reversing the object system, menus, HUD, networking, etc. I tried the cloud patch, it looks interesting, maybe it could be added as an option later, but i still have to figure out a couple things to do that. For now i'm focusing on things that improve the game's stability/usability.
Whoa whoa... it's 2024.
So what?! It's something between 1942 and 2042.
Colored buddies would be awesome and help a lot for wars.
Yeah, obvious.
But an even greater benefit for public gameplay.
There are still a few players around who are interested in tactics,
2 or 3 extra colours would definately help in addition to the F-keys.
a patch for "perfect" hits would be great too

I think the inf patch uuuz made is pretty good tbh. Maybe one could be made for planes and tanks?
Are you a cheater, Mr. Flasche?
Im not
A patch helps players to have better performance without having to sit in front of the PC for days and hours to make any settings on the PC, Windows, router etc. would be very helpful or an exact list of which knobs are needed to perform certain tricks in this dirty old game.

The inf/reg patch or lag compensation patch was made by a serbian player named Soldierr. Credit where credit is due.

That is interesting. You have to ask simon and deeko about it.

I'm very curious, at least I already know that you have to restart the game several times before each round. Windows XP is supposedly also the holy cow but I don't want to be the grouch again otherwise all the fanboys will come out of their holes again to praise their boys to the heavens and attack me with their sayings haha
hi uuuz,
wine player here - i've put the dll in the correct directory and fired the game up - but bf42plus.ini doesen't get created. that leads to the question: does it work correctly under the wine-emulator?

I haven't yet tested the mod under wine. Does it work besides not creating the config file? I will try to test it under a virtual machine.

If there are some things that objectively improve the gameplay then i'd be glad to look into it and implement them, but most things i heard about aren't really verifiable.
Also yes, i did not make the patch everyone calls "reg patch". It was made by one of the BFSoldiers (known as Soldierr here and on dc)
Currently i'm working on the custom buddy colors, its almost done.
very excited for the buddy list add-on! great work uuuz

Hello chief_hemp,
After you place dsound.dll in your BF1942 dir, you have to run winecfg and add BF1942.exe to Applications, then go to Libraries tab and add dsound to override, it should be native and built-in.
When you load up the game with Battlefield 1942 Plus, in the bottom left corner of the menu, you will notice "BF1942 v1.61; mod 1.2.0 ..." and now you should have a bf42plus.ini file in your game folder.
hi tuia,
thank you - that works like advertised now. silly me i've forgot that step.
@uuuz: without register the dll theres no additional verstion-string in lobby. so it's ignored by the game in general. after the winecfg step the version string shows up and the former crisp fonts are getting a bit squishy/blurry. came across this by a misconfiguration of my widescreen setting - i guess. thats an old quirk - possibly due to the fact that i love to play that game on 1440x900 instead of the original 4:3 blown up to widescreen proportions - no biggie tho.
regarding the weather situation: one of the latest fhsw updates brought independent weather to the maps. you walk around in woods and theres a rly damp atmosphere and as soon you're in the open it clears out visibly. or local rain squalls - very cool - but fps takes a massive dive.
about weather, there is wind commands that works ingame, but i could never figure out any use for it.
physics.wind? Try setting it to a high value, funny as heck.
Currently i'm working on the custom buddy colors, its almost done.
This looks so gay! I love it! *kiss on lips*

Only in the game's main menu or on the ingame HUD too? Btw i'm glad u got it working, i will include the extra installation steps for wine in the readme.
To everyone: i need your opinion. I made a patch that gradually lowers other player's nametags when u get close to them, so you can actually see it instead of it going off-screen. I have been using this patch for over a year and noticed that i miss it when i use bf42plus, which doesn't have it. I want to include it in the mod and enable it by default, what do you all think, is it a good idea or it should be disabled by default? In my opinion its clearly an improvement, but i don't want the mod's defaults to be too different from vanilla.
This is great, thank you for 42+ Uuuz...!
About the tags, imo it is best to enable by default, it looks useful. But at same time i wonder how it would looks for those who use the x2 fonts file.
