Black screen when using ESC or joining server / windows 10

I have a new windows 10 laptop and downloaded tuia's ww2 anthology torrent last night. it installed fine and everything worked great. I joined the rtr & sw server fine and played around using the escape button just fine being able to change settings and what not..

but today I jumped on the game and everything works fine until I attempt to join a server, sometimes it will just give me a black blank screen with the battlefield music and it locks everything up. I have to sign out and log back in to do anything..

Sometimes i am able to join a server, but that damn escape button is just lurking there waiting for me to accidently hit it, and when i do it gives me the same black screen crap..

any solutions? direct play is enabled, i already checked. I have tried changing resolutions and compatibility mode, admin mode, nothing will seem to fix it. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Cow,
Have you updated your video drivers? A lot of the time with new setups you are running on Windows default drivers (from Windows update), which wont allow some resolutions. Also drop into your device manager and see if there are any issues lurking there.

Use the super secret administer mode.

this happen to me ,when my internet connection is lost ,or i cant connect to defined master server ,however if i unplug my lan cable and press ESC or go to multiplayer section it wouldnt show me blankscreen just my ping to servers would remain at 9999 ,check ur master server infos at windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

To be honest I tried nothing. I decided I can just quick join servers from desktop after checking GameTracker for which server I want to play in.

I also tried running the game in a window, and there are no freezes or black screens this way.

Do you have Intel integrated graphics by any chance?

plus a built in video card?   there are known conflicts between the two, on my laptop i had to go into graphics 3d settings and make sure all applications were running on my nvidia card as default.

I'm having the same problem as you on my new laptop... except I can't even change maps on without a CTD (crash to desktop). I have DirectPlay enabled too and the latest Nvidia GeForce driver installed (I have a MSI Notebook with Windows 10 + a dedicated graphic card, Nvidia GeForce GTX 940M). I use the Nividia high-speed processor when playing BF1942 (I set it in the Nvidia Control Panel) and it works fine there. But still can't ESC to main menu or change maps. Sometimes I can't even join a server without the black screen of death.

BF1942 is installed with tuia's installer.

I will try that, thanks. However, I fail to see how this will make it work. I mean the game WORKS FINE but I have to set it in windowed mode. Fullscreen doesn't work..

make sure your game settings match your video card...i had to go into video.con file   and set it to 1920x1080x16...
and same on gtx video card....(i have laptop with gtx980m)....and through the intel graphics processor....

the resident intel card kept defaulting to a different size screen....as idt you can fix the gtx to be the default for the laptop screen

follow the below step

1-go to your bf1942 directory

2-navigate to mods/bf1942/Movies

3-change the name of file "background.bik" to another thing

this one at least worked for me

P.S: this is not 100 % helpful as u still get the blankscreen but it reduces it

Well this topic isn't solved with time and not followed about players who had problem...
Well I up this topic then. More than 2 years I play like same way with this recurrent problem (well maybe 1/2 times I try).

I play with close/start bf1942 like this to join server. When I join directly the servers (no defaut preferences, all joining servers can react the same way..) be sure if I close the game, do something on computer and want to play again, I have the black screen problem.
I have directx good, xp 3 good, all drivers ok (I make the video on my second little laptop, same problem as on my main computer). I have tried solutions from here too, where by the way the first solution is really bad => impossible to run the game. And the second solution doesnt work.
