Do any of you play bf1942 under linux os?
If so,
What distro do you use?
Do you use Wine? If not, what do you use?
What other non-obvious packages do you need?
Thanks
I play BF1942 (+XPacks+mods) under Wine 1.4.1 on Ubuntu 12.04.5 (Precise Pangolin) 32-bit. No more package/s needs to be installed, the game worked flawlessly... except Punkbuster and some mod tools for BF1942 like WinRFA and Menu editor in BFMDT.
Could any of you Linux fanatics help me out? The game keeps crashing when I try to load the map Liberation of Caen. It only happens with this map, all other maps work fine. Any of you got the same problem?
Liberation of Caen is one of those maps with custom objects in it, and its the only one that has custom files in it for overwriting some of the values in the games game.rfa file

Did you make any change/s on that map? Try to reinstall the game (if you have a retail version) and load the map again to see if it work.
Thanks, Jesus, I'll try to reinstall the game.
OSX + wine here, for the most part works great.
The problem with bf42 is that it has so many coding errors, mainly just small things that doesnt matter much when you playing, Windows is more forgiving to such things whereas linux can be a bitch just if you us a capital letter instead of a small one.
is there even any "Grant gun"?
Engine\Io\Console.cpp(1497): Warning: Io: Error Bf1942/Game/MaterialManagerSettings.con (3353): run damage_system/Grant_Gun
anyway i think the Caen map may have one fault to many but hopefully im wrong and it works with a reinstall.

Ok I have reinstalled the retail version (not the version by tuia) and everything is working fine now. Thanks for your help, Jesus.
Something like:
wine explorer /desktop=desktop-two,800x600 ./BF1942.exe +restart 1
Is helpful, you can set bf1942 to run in a window rather than take over the screen.
winecfg can also help with setting display parameters.
I'm unable to find Intel drivers for my T410 with ubuntu 12.04
I'm unable to find Intel drivers for my T410 with ubuntu 12.04
Have you already tried searching in Additional Drivers on System Settings?
Also, I'd recommend to switch to the latest Long term support (LTS) release of Ubuntu or other Linux distro as Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" will stop receiving updates this April.

Many thanks for your reply Bro !
I did the searching in Additional Drivers on System Settings, nothing was found..
I used 12.04 as my T410 was listed in the certified list.
Well then, should I get the Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS ? or xubuntu or lubuntu or any other distro ?
I really want the sidebar gadgets on it (as seen on windows 7) and then I want to try bf1942 on wine..
I'm noob Linux user, so really need your expert advice and direction in this case !
Thanks again Bro !!
