Master server down?

It looks like the master server at master.bf1942.sk stopped responding this morning at about 1am Pacific.

Anyone else seeing this?

Did something change? I show the IP address for master.bf1942.sk still as 94.23.196.155.

What is that IP address? Can it be trusted? All I can tell is that it's hosted in The Netherlands.

Out of curiosity, what is being used to populate this master server?  Meaning if we're talking about master.bf1942.sk, it's "because the running Battlefield 1942 servers are configured to send their heartbeats there."  So if I pointed my game client to 143.176.207.225, what will cause a server to appear in that list?  e.g. "Normal functionality" meaning only servers which have also been pointed to this master server will appear; or this master server is pulling from a static offline list that is manually edited; or something else.

Good question!
My master server used to pull the list from ssk-master and add some static entries.
Now it only has static entries.
I made list of IPs I got from the master server 2 days ago.

Soon my master server will support heartbeats. For now just send me a PM with your server IP if you start a new server

ive expected this moment for 7½ years, since ssk put up his unofficial master server back in the summer of 2014. b42 was in big trouble then, and is now again

i predicted ssk would do this shutdown sometime in 2022, because, after he lost all his population back in spring 2021, he probably was 95 % sure that it never would come back, but waited one last time for the high pop winter season, to see if any miracles would occur. they didnt, so he finally shut ax (highly likely permanently) down

this is probably the end for bf1942, and reasonable population in the two largest servers remaining; simple and moongamers. i doubt that the new-new alternate master server will make a difference unless its possible to make it work from inside b42 clients without these having to change/do anything

editing hosts files is not a good solution on a global bf1942 scale, since the vast majority dont know how to, and wont do that

get ready for real low population, and many players finally ditching this game for good, after 20 years

During the First  master server shutdown  I was one  of the people  spreading the news that we had a new Master server  you probably  seen my topics  pop-up and come by on so many forums.

I will do it again if we have a  workable master server  because I love this game  I don't care who run the master server  all I care about  is keeping the players playing  and have a easy to install  server fix.

bf1942  will survive this and  yes ! we probably lose some players  but they will come back eventually as long as we keep  information quickly available  we have to use to power of the internet to our  advantage.

Most bf1942 players are in contact via forums with the community,
So, no worries about population...
editing the host file is ugly. that's why its temporary

Henk, we already posted in our forum, sent a PM in TGE's forum (although I'm sure they're already aware), and put out an announcement in our Discord about this, and your temp workaround.

The remaining servers, and I wish aX had not died, are needed to provide players the variety of games that will keep them interested. Yes, it's likely the overall population will go down, but hopefully there are enough players who know how to find information that we can once again spread the word, and keep this old game breathing for a while longer.

Our communities banded together during the attacks, and we will unite again for the greater good.

A confirmation to ensure that this is what you want:

Unzip the archive to your root Battlefield folder.  The folder containing:  BF1942.exe
All servers have been tested except TGE (prolly still banned there anyways, but w/e)..

You guys working on this problem are legends. The fact that there's a bunch of people here, and elsewhere trying to fix it, proves in my mind, that this problem wont kill the best online game ever made.

p.s. is this why there has been a lot of lag lately?

Finally there is a solution:

There is a new master server: master.bf1942.org
To be able to update the server list you will need this patch!

Here is the installer (it sadly gives a warning):

So is it working again? I didn't do anything with the game, server browser working fine.

So you can press update on the server  list from the original  fix  executable  and it  gives  you a list of servers ?
because http://master.bf1942.sk/  is still offline for me  and  from insight  knowledge  s[sk]  is not going to startup the server again.

Nope, ... only if you have already a List by clicking on a server it still updates the servers state.

But if you press "Update" it won't work/the list will be blank.

Microsofts (Defender) description scares me

But the important scanners shows it as clean. If it would be malicious, they would recognise it. Kaspersky and others.
