You can install a 32 Bit Version of Wine inside PoL in Drauger
Btw. there should be also a Log from the Installer. There you see what is missing. (In Drauger i did not check it, in !Pop i did.)
...
Ya, you need also d3dx9.dll beside the core fonts and tahoma.
Check dis.

Just saw that "Run a local script" Button in POL.
This here is from Lutris, not Pol, but i think i saw also once one for PoL

Does it work?
theres no such thing like wine32. u tell wine to use its 32-bit stuff by
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=path_to_wineprefix winecfg
and while ur at it: see that "usefull" lib32 things got installed along too, like lib32-mesa,lib32-pulse, and so on.
https://www.winehq.org/ has all the infos.
PoL is just a frontend to wine, why not read up wine-stuff first?
wineprefix: that practically ur former win-installation. one game goes into one wineprefix. dont mingle it. if something goes south, just delete that wineprefix and start over.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libqt5widgets5 : Depends: libqt5gui5 (>= 5.12.5) but it is not going to be installed or
libqt5gui5-gles (>= 5.12.5) but it is not going to be installed
qt5-gtk-platformtheme : Depends: libqt5gui5 (>= 5.10.0) but it is not going to be installed or
libqt5gui5-gles (>= 5.10.0) but it is not going to be installed
winehq-stable : Depends: wine-stable (= 6.0.1~focal-1)

hemp. this is what i get when typing your command in terminal
drauger-user@drauger-oem-system:~$ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=path_to_wineprefix winecfg
it looks like wine32 is missing, you should install it.
as root, please execute "apt-get install wine32"
wine: invalid directory path_to_wineprefix in WINEPREFIX: not an absolute path
the question is do other versions of wine crash with the one i try to install?
i followed this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx8NbZEAPNM

Jørgen min ven, piger skal ikke være nemme.

i was joking about easy girls. girls hitting on me is just probably undercover cops

you mean all the undercover cops?
when i was young all i needed from a girl was a look and a smile, and i wold go over and say hi.
it was my own kind of exposure therapy.
jorgen,
u sure replaced that path_to_wineprefix to some directory like "~/wineprefixes/BF1942-HD" - right?
my bad, it looks like ubuntus multi-lib environment is still meh... and a working bf1942 installation depends on a lot of lib32 stuff that needs to get installed too.

well i did not replace the path. can try. i did also see a page longer that my friends criminal record

Once when you'll get tired struggling with Ubuntu+Wine and decide to reinstall the OS, try Fedora Linux. I have Wine Staging, it just works for me.
with my old laptop i have ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS wine-3.6 (Ubuntu 3.6-1) works fine. hitreg is great. but a bit laggy with lots of players
drauger os is based on ubuntu 20.04? i think
My second OS is also Ubuntu 20.04.5 on a separate M.2 NVMe drive, and Battlefield 1942 + mods work really well as well as fast-user switching (aka pressing Alt+Tab) is now possible.
The only problem I encountered that it's difficult to create a desktop shortcut for BF1942 mods that does not create one during the installation process like Eve of Destruction or Experience WWII, since Wine Launcher Creator haven't been updated since 2013.

ok after trying pop!os and having problem with gpu driver for one day i am trying fedora.
if fedora fail me i will try kali then ubuntu then xp then ifdk
fedora looks great. will post updates
ok. i got the hd game running. but not in fullscreen.
changed pc resolution to 800x600. now fullscreen 59.86hz or 60,32hz i think there is a problem with that. bf42 like to play on 60hz only...

i had the same issue. to run the game from dashboard i created bf1942.desktop file, putted it into
/usr/share/applications/
and added the following lines
[Desktop Action Fix_display]
Name=Fix display
Exec=xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --mode 1440x900 --rate 75 --output VGA-1 --mode 1440x900 --rate 75
and used this option every time my screen resolution changed after leaving the game
to see your available displays/video outputs you can run xrandr tool with no arguments
lol jorgen, I see you're on Fedora too now. Good. I think I will be doing some distro hopping now just for fun.
In the beginning I liked the distros where I would have to get my hands dirty. I used Slackware for many years. But then I got tired because of all the software compilation stuff. Wanna use that video editor? Just compile it yourself. It takes only 3 days, lol. Nowadays I use mostly Debian or Ubuntu-based distros because of the wide range of pre-compiled packages. I guess I've become a bit lazy when it comes to Linux.

@Jorgen.

for those who dont have access to the admin section in this forum, and wonder if this story about linux drauger os and its miraculous effects on hitregs and latencies is true or not, i can reveal :
not true, a made up story for certain reasons
i say this because i care a lot about gamers, and i dont want them to lose dozens of hours, setting up and testing this os
the instant i saw the post in another thread, that became the foundation for this thread, i figured there was 50% chance or more that it was fiction, and due to recent events i now know for sure
im not trying to disrespect those involved, i only want to prevent people from wasting time on searching for something that doesnt exist
...
But it's interesting trying it.
You know, with DraugerOS, which is specially for (newer) Games, it's an torture to install Bf1942.
I'm not good enuff for it. Even to create the virtual drive is a forceps delivery. Takes somehow 2 h. But i guess it's because of the old SteamrollerPC.
In !PopOS i managed to run Battlefield, but it was not really useable, and from this point it's a question how much you are wiling to test with different wine's or configurations.
The next i try is Kubuntu and then this Mint.
There are also some scripts around. Install it with a script is anyway the best, but mostly you have to change first some things and there for i do not know enuff.
...
Drauger would be good for Games only, and it might run great for Steam-Games. But older games...

Ok, ... found out why it takes so long to create that damn virtual drive.
Some windows, "Wine-Mono", Wine_Gecko and "Wine Configuration" are bugged.
Instead of a visible window, i can only see a small bar.
I marked that bar after a while and pressed Enter, then it went forwward, but ofc without the option to configure anything in those 3 windows.
Bugged shice, ... that i can say. The Internet is full of "(DraugerOS) Play on Linux creating virtual drive hangs".
I guess i will install dis next time via Terminal. I guess, if you can install those things manually, it will work later.
...
Could be the miss of some needed missing fonts.
Ya, again those Truetype fonts from freetype. While i could install those 3 manually in !PopOS, i can install here only 2.
...
The virtual drive was made in short time, but bec. it's an automated process inside POL, it never went forward.
I can acess now the existing virtual drive, also via POL.
First step now is installing the missing fonts.
...
Done (This should be first step. Before starting POL or Lutris).
$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install libfreetype6:i386
...
Hehe, i see the Battlefield-Logo from InstallShield.
Da Fukk, sadly the window has the same bug
...
Ok, that's a known POL Bug called "POL mini window Bug.

Ok, one solution could be, deleting all "libz.so" files in the Wine Folder. Found them, but have no rights.
Anyone can tell me, how i can delete them? Have no access rights.

Ya, the installer is starting, i see only a small bar, i press 2 times Enter, then i see the Window, or let's say a small bar, i write (blind) the Serial Code, but then i can't go further.

Are you still working on this one? Generally, you can delete any file with the "sudo rm" command. But I'm not sure if it's a good idea to delete those libraries. I don't know what they are good for.
