84 slots is a lot for BF1942 in 2021, but still, the Simple player count is currently above 80 or full, around 5-10 hours per week, and we aren’t even in the high season. Fall/winter + new covid variants may bring further server population increases.
I’ve proposed slot increases several times before, which mostly were met by negative naysayers, but fortunately, the head admin makes many right choices, and he added slots (probably doesn’t need most player input and would’ve done it anyway).

I’m aware that 84+ slots may bring too much latency and other technical issues, but I think it should be tried at least.

Actually, it wouldn't be a terrible idea just to try, but I think my experience on TTB tells me it will be a latency-induced chaos.

Edit :Why not a second server for people that actually do teamplay so I don't have to keep count of this very individual oriented players like this bonehead that never heals a teamie,doesn't take the flag when he can spawnrape it,teamstacks if hec an't beat you or just plainly quits the game out of spite......

The theoretical maximum number of players on a server is 255. Imagine that on Berlin.
Actually with a little bit of tweaking to the server application you can get up to 16777215 players on a server if you wanted to

I thought that limit only applied to the amount of bots you can have? I do know how to make it “show” that many player slots but I never tested trying to get more than 255 players (not bots) on a server. Thanks for the info Mamba!

I can't see it making any difference.. so you would hit 90 a few times.. not much difference.
when typing a command it takes five to ten seconds to apply, if a player reports when checking the list of players one of the teams list gets stuck or bugged, in El Alamein an Enemy plane spawns or land inside the enemy´s hangar.

Increase it even more for more Newbies and less Community Players.
It feels like playing on AX sometimes.

And yes, ... that delay with the Commands is tiring.
If you write a command while you play you have to focus those 10 seconds on the chat, to check if it was successful or not.

for me a full server is not playable. how is it for the rest of you guys and girls?
Its not just the server spec thats important, but its doess also put some extra strain on players computer to. How much is harder to judge, but if a map is heavy modded then ofcourse more data is shuffled around.
Some years ago i tried downclock my cpu just out of curiosity and then connect to a bf42 server with many of players, and what happend was that i had to stop the experiment before i reached the lowest setting, because it started to lag badly long before i thought it would.
All we need now is a pure infantry server for Berlin/stalin or what it was like in the past.
Get lags on 84 slots when the server is full. Berlin and Caen are almost unplayable. And I think it's a big mess on very small maps.
Probably my computer reaches its limit, as bud said.
But I don't see the server full very often... Not sure a specific inf server will help, or contributes to empty the server that is not a very good thing...
We should do a weekend event where the server is 128 slots… and we organize the event to get as many people on a Saturday on the server.
We could probably hit 128/128, play The bigger maps like Midway… full crews on ships…
Maybe El Al with more tank spawns etc, etc. would be pretty fun I think.
Especially since it’s the 19th anniversary of 1942… something to think about.

I acutally like this idea, once or twice a year where everyone would get together in a 128 slot server. If we could get a following like FinnWars does on Finland independence day every year, we would be good for the next century.

My Act of Valor Jungle map would be absolutely insane with 128 people. That map would be freaking nuts with that many people.
