Need new keyboard.

Your suggestions about a new mouse lead me to a great one. Now it's time for a keyboard. It's had probs for awhile, so I needed a chance to find a new one.

Any suggestions?

Re: Need new keyboard.

...

It's like buying new shoes, ... not easy.

But buy a mechanical one.

Khail switches are cheaper, the blue's are not that loud as cherry blue switches. Cherry Switches are a bit more crispy.

A cheap solution is Sharkoon Purewriter with Kailh blue.

https://de.sharkoon.com/product/PWRGB

If you don't want/need the the numeric block, it's the TKL version.

https://de.sharkoon.com/product/PWTKLRGB

If you buy a keyboard with Kailh switches, take the blue's, if you buy one with cherry switches, buy blue's, (crispy, but loud) or browns.

...

A bit more money, but better are the "Ducky" Keyboards.

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/in … t_list&c=1 (Many different brands)

Ducky > https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/in … list&c=111

...

You know, in USA you have so many good mechanical keyboards. And the price for them is not that high as in Europe.

The best switches are Cherry Blue's or browns, (Blue's have better tactile feeling/response but are also louder and the cheaper solutions are Khail blue.

If it's payable, then go for cherry MX Switches. (Blue or brown)

...

You know, i guess the mechanical keyboards came down in price, but there are also some new switches and i don't know all of them.

...

Btw. Most ducky's have PBT keycaps. Not wrong for gaming.  (PBT is very durable, keeps color, condition etc.)

Re: Need new keyboard.

Definitely am going with mechanical. The RGB stuff is lame. But do you have options to make them 1 solid color backlit?

I need full size with number pad. For one, I'm used to inserting numbers that way and because I use arrows to move and the 0 key to jump.

There is a shop here with one of those Das Keyboards. Brand new but openbox price. Any one here use them??

Re: Need new keyboard.

...

"Das Keyboard" are Premium.

All of them are good stuff.

If you have the possibility, you should try out Cherry Switches Blue and Brown.

The blues have the best tactile feedback, but are also noisy. The browns are not that loud, but have also not that nice feedback.

There are other switches too, with/without feeback, different hub, different triggerpoint etc.

But Cherry Blue and Brown are the best, both good for writing and gaming. (The blues are sweetest for writing).

If you go on Kailh, then you can take the blues, not that loud but also not that crispy like cherry Blue. But also cheaper.

The best would be if you can make a testrun. Otherwise buy 2, one with browns and one with blue and send one back later. (Here you can do this.)

...

RGB Firlefans, Backlight etc.

What i can say. At the Sharkoon Purewriter you can reduce/dimm the lights, you can set just one color and disable useless pulsing.

At Das Keyboard i guess it's also possible.

Enlighted keys are usefull, but yes, noone really needs that Nonsens RGB flickering/pulsing and switching Color stuff.

...

Anyway, ... to change those settings you must have a academic degree smile

Or you can just read the manual.

...

I had also in past monsters of keyboards, but then i prefered as smallas possible.

On the other side, you have today low profile Keys/Switches. You have to find out yourself, if you can handle those, like then or not.

Coolermaster

https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/pe … t=Keyboard

Some low Profile KB are really expensive here.

Last time, i decided not to spend too much money and bought that Sharkoon Purewriter TKL (No numeric) with Khail Blue.

But in USA all Keyboards are lower in price, so if you can, buy Something you like, (tested), and with the prefered Chery Switches.

On the other side, i can say i did not regret my decision with the Sharkoon, even if it's a lowcost Keyboard.

But... Cherry Blue are better, but also louder. Not everyone like that sound.

...

Additionally i would say, go for one with Double Shot PBT.

PBT don't lose the color even if you make 1 million km on one key.

My sharkoon lost at the D and S the color, but meanwhile it's also some time old and i have some longer nails.

But with PBT they won't lose the color nor wear out.

"Double shots" mean, you can switch the upper cap if needed.

...

What you should not do, is taking black switches. No tactil feedback, not really funny to use them. There are also reds, but they are also linear.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WYWePNJTo4

...

Not to forget, ... kailh are not that noisy.

I like the blues, ... but that means not you would like them in any case.

I had for decades a IBM Model M, (Still have it), and so i went for blues.

...

That one is good.

I plan to, maybe tomorrow. Was just wondering what other people's experiences have been. If someone was like 'F that Logitech xxxx, then I'd probably not take as much time at looking at it lol.

Re: Need new keyboard.

I'm still playing with my old Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A I bought in 2007 maybe. The keyboard still works fine. I tried another keyboard but I didn't find it handy. The keyboard choice is quite a subtle thing, you don't need to purchase it via Internet, it's better to test it in the store. That's my opinion. smile

Re: Need new keyboard.

that's true. you need a good feeling. I also tried many out in the store. for me, the decisive factor is handling. I would definitely recommend a gaming keyboard. if you press several buttons on them, what you press also happens. with mine there are up to 9 buttons I think I can press and then react. the same applies to the mouse. my result is now. keyboard: razer ornata chroma and the mouse is: razer mamba elite. both feel good to me. but as nameless says. go to a shop and then win impressions. smile

Re: Need new keyboard.

A Nkey Rollover KB is not wrong.

There are many, they have nKey only with PS2 and with USB 6-12 or so.

Newer have also via USB nKey Rollover.

But at least 6-8 supported keys is good.

Here you can test it.

https://drakeirving.github.io/MultiKeyDisplay/

The manual test is even more specific.  (It shows if you have full nKey Rollover ).

> Start Notepad > press both Shift-Keys and hold them and with free fingers just type those words.

...

And yes... The feeling with Mouse and KB is the same as with old shoes.

They fit still much better then any other new.

...

And here you can test input lag

Re: Need new keyboard.

I would look for a keyboard that's reliable, quiet and wouldn't break down within a year or two, like most new, shiny, colorful and expensive things. I've had an old logitech keyboard bought from a food store and I've had a 100 euro mechanical keyboard for gaming and honestly, if the shape resembles a keyboard and the buttons are the right size, you won't feel much difference. Plus, if you don't live alone, that annoying mechanical keyboard clicking can get on everyones nerves.

Re: Need new keyboard.

Has anyone heard of or used this one? It's usually $130 but the place I went to has it for $90:  https://fnatic.com/gear/en/streak

There were a couple different HyperXs and Corsairs and a Roccat Vulcan 210 which was cool.
Logitech G910 was pretty awesome, but it has a phone dock which is kind of stupid lol.

I live alone and the clicking would annoy me lol. Some of them are crazy loud.

Which looks looks good?

You ever touched it or use one of a Fnatic or HyperX or  Roccat?  Or others?

I tried..  it was neat I guess. But the keys on Roccat seemed to me wider or more spread out or something. More space between keys..
I have small hands so it felt like a lot of ground to cover with my hands on the keyboard..

Judging by the Fnatic picture, this keyboard is tactile good, it has classic layout and deep mechanical or membrane key displacement, which is good for action. You can operate the pressure on the keys like you do with the accelerator and brakes in the car. For example, I'm flying with a keyboard only and no mouse, this is very critical for me. It could not be done with the scissor-switch keyboards like in the laptops with very short key displacement where the key is pressed or not. It's good for typing but it's not for gaming.

at the other side of the price-spectrum, is good cheap keyboard for gaming : logitech k120 .... costs around 15 bucks

it can take a lot of abuse, its low-profile, and virtually silent. classic logitech quality

ive used it for a long time, both for regular use and for bf1942

Re: Need new keyboard.

I recently purchased a BlackWidow Elite and it's been serving me really well.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FF … UTF8&psc=1

In the US it's on sale right now, $99.99 plus tax.

You definitely notice the loud keys at first but get used to it quickly. The feeling is really nice.

I would not buy the "green" version if you use the computer in close proximity to someone else, though - the clicky noise can be really annoying to others. The "orange" and "yellow" versions are more silent.

For BF1942, the cheapest keyboard will do. Only an idiot would drop hundreds of dollars on a multicoloured keyboard with LED lights that glow in the dark. The game is 18 years old ffs. Same deal for people that buy the latest GFX card. Gimme a break

I agree... I don't plan on paying hundreds lol. But I also plan on paying for something that I'll use for awhile. All the RGB stuff is just a gimmick to increase price. Also, I'll get a new PC soon which will allow me to expand my PC gaming horizons lol.
