Re: For the lovers of history

Just share the trailer for the Miyazaki's movie about the creation of the Zero :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imtdgdGOB6Q

If you have watched Spirited Away or Mononoke Princess it's realy not the same movie here with an historic and realistic vision about the main chief engineer of the Zero. How Japan wanted this plane, a little bit the relations with germans too. smile
You can also watch the movie Porco Rosso with biplan and hydroplanes in italy, adriatic sea !

Not in this movie no, but the history is real of course, like lot of scenes with the plans of the Zero when they were working on it.
In an other way I have watched one year ago movie "Your name" not the same category ahah but I was impressed by the pictures all the times. Very different from Ghibli studio.

Re: For the lovers of history

I remember one Japanese ace pilot talking how they flew for many sorties in few days and how flights lasted for several hours and on their way home some pilots would just fall asleep(due to exhaustion) and crash in sea.
They had additional fuel reservoirs attached and they could cover twice or even three times over normal combat radius of zero plane..
There are many interviews with zero pilots, they even explain combat tactis, dog fight etc.. I recommend watching it.
Just type ''Japanese Ace Interviews'' in youtube search bar.

I have seen this story too about japonese pilots falling in the sea because they were tired.
I recently checked how japan lost north of China to the Russia and the run to Iroshima between US and USRR to have the control of Japan, very interesting

Re: For the lovers of history

I believe u r talking about Soviet invasion of Manchuria in august 1945.
Stalin told western Allies that SSSR will enter war with Japan 3 months after war in Europe is over.
Time needed to rest and transport large number of soldiers and equipment to the far east.

And he did so, they overrunned Janan forces in Manchuria in just 10 days - it was slaughter, Japs tactics were to dug in and not to retreat, but their bunkers and trenches were destroyed from large distances Soviets used their superior tanks and artillery guns, they had no need to come closer and go hand to hand combat, which was disaster for Japanese forces who counted on just that.
Japs had nothing good enough to fight back, their weapons were much inferior and they lacked tanks, anti-tank guns and they had no air support.

That defeat alone was more then enough for Japan to consider about surrender, because in Manchuria they had oil fields and coal mines etc.. they were cripled for further military operations, even defensive ones. (not to mention nuclear bombing few days before loss of Manchuria)

Re: For the lovers of history

There was only once a case when they lost Wladiwostok at the 25. Oktober 1922.

But this was due the fallin into Russia. Japanese fought with US together, like many other countries due the russian revolution.

This is also the reason, why soviets mistrusted any other country.  But not Switzerland. They helped Lenin to come back to Russia smile  (he lived in exil in switzerland), but the germans payed the journey, so they thought, when Lenin is in charge, he will stop the war at the eastfront in WW1, what also happend.

Nobody saw that it was changing also the future ... WW2 Germany in case of Russia.

But there was no other case, where japan lost a war.  Yes, ... in Wladiwostok they got pushed back.

Arkos there were two pre-war battles between USSR and Japan on a Chinese/USSR border in 1938 near lake Khasan https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lake_Khasan
And a Khalkhin Gol battle 1939, Mongolia+USSR vs Japan+Manchuria.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Khalkhin_Gol
It was mainly a border conflict. Like in-battle reconnaissance to checkout soviets readiness and military power.

Yes, from Arte. And they showed that Japan soldiers in Mandchouri were young and not veteran strong soldier, without lot of vehicules and weapon.
You all right after the thread guys smile

Japan tryed to invade Mongolia, but Mongols had pact with Soviets, and if any of them gets attacked/invaded other one must send help.
Soviets went to full ofensive and Japs were demolished in Khalkhin Gol, Soviets numbered less then Japanese did.
And Soviet losses were around 17 000, while Japans were more then 50 000 !
It showed that Soviets have much better army then Japan did.
So Japs had to sign treaty with Soviets and Mongolia that same year.
It was not in Stalins interest to push further east because he didnt want to stretch his forces because of possible war in Europe + Soviets were not really ready for longer war, they were still strugling with industrialization.
They just wanted to ''show'' teeths to Japs.
During battle of Stalingrad, 12 divisions that participated in battle of Khalkhin Gol were among those who counter-attacked during Uranus offensive.

Re: For the lovers of history

You mix sumdin.

Overall in all "Battles of Khalkhin Gol"

Soviet were double numbered then Japanese and had 8x more tanks and double number of artillery and more then 2x number of planes.

And the casualties were vice versa. Soviets 27'000 and Japs 16'000.

Beside was the attack on Mongolia a test from the japanese, to find out how far the soviets would go.

The japanese Army was well trained and fought allways determined.

Re: For the lovers of history

...

There's a Korean Movie, "Prisoners of War".

It's about the mongolian battle, based on a true story.

Two friends, one korean, one japanese, one got forcibly recruited, the other entered voluntary into the japanese army to fight in Mongolia.

They got prisoned, and, instead of death sentence, they had to fight in the soviet army.

At the end they landed in France, where they had to fight against the allied, before they walked home.

...

A nice movie, when you are a bit tired and can't sleep.  (137 Min.)

https://www.kinos.to/Stream/Prisoners_of_War.html (German, choose OpenLoad.co Server).

(i had to refresh the window that i could switch the server, don't click on popups if you don't have an active blocker)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1606384/

(Ok, to be honest, if someone likes korean movies, it's a good movie.)

...

If i'm not wrong, there's no english version.

...

(Correction ... it's a really good movie. I just looked inside.)

Re: For the lovers of history

You really just read from wikipedia and thats it... it's irritating.

Yes, they fought determined(like always), fighting to the last man was in their mentality, thats how their nation fucntioned, ''one man is nothing, nation is everything'', but they lost that battle, otherwise they would march into Soviet territory, to the Moscow itself if possible.
And they would never signed any treaty unless they were defeated.
Soviets had superiror weapons, tactics.. and that determined their conflict.

U think that Hitler didn't pressure Japan to engage Soviets in mid of WWII ?
Why didnt they?? Because of conflict with US? Yeah right....
They didnt beacuse they knew that Soviets were all in all better army!

Re: For the lovers of history

Oh one little detail... i think there are not many asians or japanese here on the forum. Little detail for you guys... even YOUNG KIDS in Asia when i speak to them about WW2 and Hitler... they ALL LOVE HIM!! THEY KNOW HIM... crazy little detail.

From China to Taiwan, from Thailand to Japan... the kids... KNOW and LOVE Hitler... oh well... for what it is worth.

Little side story:
About one year ago i walked in Bangkok shopping mall. I see this kid with a swastika tattoo on his upper arm.

Guess what i had to do?

Talk to him of course (no i am not a nazi retard salut him).

He didn't know it was used in WW2... for him it is a Hindo sign... but sure he knew about Hitler and WW2... just didnt knew that sign. Odd... i still not figure out how all these young kids LEARN about WW2... haven't seen any Mein Kamph's laying around either. And it might be from the history class in school.

That happens when education fails... Even on this forum there are some extremist lover for nazis, I dont have to spote them, we all know which guys I'm talking about.

I'll post later about an other story of WWII. There are some post on french army ministery sometimes for anniversary days and they axplain what happen in some days in the past. Yersterday it was a french commando tried to spot V2 site. I will not talk about it but there are sometimes good stories
