Re: Room of Culture

...

In South-Spain after the christians toke back the country they turned mosque into cathedrals/churches.

One of them is the "Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba", built in the 784, changed to cathedral at 1236.

Absolutly beautifull. I love those stylish buildings.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mezquita- … C3%B3rdoba

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosque%E2 … C3%B3rdoba

There was a docu some days ago about those witty times.

The sad thing on this story is, that before the christians toke Southspain back from the moslems, all people were welcome there. Jews, moslems, christians and it was a place for science and knowledge for centuries. (It was the "Golden Age" in spain).
(One aspect was the screw/worm gear. It was used 3000 before Chr. but forgotten for hundreds, (in fact thousends) of years and reappeared in MiddelAge.)

...

After Karl V. saw, what they did with this mosque, he said, "you have done something, you can find elsewhere, but you have destroyed something unique in the world".

...

The other side of this story:

150 years after this reconquista there was a ethnic cleansing in spain.

...

Fake news is what you eat there. He went to Ukraine and to France then on his own, he spent his time in France in the abandoned building before he set on fire another administrative building. smile

11:15-23:30, a 12 minutes interview about political situation between russia and Ukraine. One time on one channel among many others. You said "he works in Ukraine as an expert in economics".
Now again why do you replace concepts?
The interview is from December of 2017. Why do I have to remind you that he is in custody in France from February 2018.
Please stop spreading fake news and posting political, especially controversial information. This is a Room of culture right? smile

I don't spread fakes. I made my comment 2016-09-14 when this information was actual and he was really in Ukraine as an expert in economics. What happened to him in France was much later.

Yes, Ojibwe/Lake Superior Chippewa. I lived on that reservation all my life until February 2016. My great grandmother on my mom's side came from Europe but her husband died shortly after they arrived and she later married a 100% Ojibwe and adopted an Ojibwe girl (my grandma). My dad has some Scandinavian from waaaaay long ago and we also have French from back in the late 1600s or early 1700s, which is common. We joke and say the girls in the family got indian hair and French skin.

Re: Room of Culture

one of the best greek songs in german language from Concert in Germany Leipzig, 1982. i don't know if lyrics have the same meaning as in greek language, but sounds very good and the voice of singer is amazing, love it. lyrics is from "axion esti" from great greek poet Odysseas Elytis. he was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Literature back in 1979. music is from Mikis Theodorakis (maybe you know him from music for the films "Zorba" and "Serpico").

Re: Room of Culture

One of style of music we have is called "traditional music" which is pretty popular and part of our culture the instrument and lyrics in them are some how pretty old , they are mostly relaxing and very deep in meaning and poem

The poem in below one is from Rumi which is 800 years old

Re: Room of Culture

This is Serbian national dance, there are many versions of it..
It maybe looks easy to learn, but in fact years of practice are needed to preform it flawlessly.

This one is with national wear:

Re: Room of Culture

I posted in the movies thread about a movie called Antlers, which is about a wendigo. So I thought I'd share this video about what a wendigo is. It's one of the major evil creatures in Algonquin speaking folklore, especially the Anishinaabe people (Ojibwe, Odawa, Cree, Potawatomi, Mississaugas, etc). I can remember grandparents telling us stories about the wendigo. Winter events would also mention it.
