OMG ! thats sad : (
Is it because our ISPs are being an ISP about it ?
or are there any other factors involved ?

I think that route started 1st of July. I remember it because I had been away/offlane for 1 week, and when I came home I had ping 110+, caused by the last 2 jumps with "poney telecom".

Since around January the server(s) have just started to run worse and worse, and is now at a state, where at least for me, it's not enjoyable anymore - the hitreg and the "laggy/delay feeling" just leads to too much anger. I can maybe fix it by changing ISP or getting a VPN, but I'm not gonna do such radical changes because of 1 gameserver runned by a bad host. -> Move/Host the Simple server another place and do it quick!

Re: Moving to Paris

Its not easy to find a good host, when i first checked out a server in usa it had like perfect connection, but after i rented it and after some month or so it started to get conn-errors, then when i checked it again it was on a node that was named something like lagg or spam node. And thats not the first time that happend, doesnt matter witch host it is. Only good experience i have is with hosts in germany.

Nice article both ABAS and SIMON with the cool video.

Good question ABAS.. how does this happen. Partly its net-code. The code/program in the game that concerns about the network activities. Either serverside or client side.

It is already difficult enough for a team (dice in this case) to make a working game. After a game is released it is not finished yet. Networks where your game run over change over time. Usually it gets better, faster and more stable. But that is not always the case.

Where to host a server is a difficult matter especially when you try to serve the whole world. I seen bud talk about this and i see his views are very specialistic. He concluded at some point the German servers are the best choice for this matter. Now i cannot tell you how SMART and EXPERIENCED a person has to be to come to this conclusion. I totally agree with him.. still it is possible some players run into some problems. With hit-boxes or sync, problems with lag or pings. Or even lost packets... (which is second worst that one can get).

Most problems players here face are HOP related. Somewhere in between the client and server hops drop packets or a users gets redirected to hops that are simply NOT really in between the client and the server.

Unfortunately the internet these days suffer from criminals (black-hat hackers) and governments and institutions that try to protect us (read: spy/control/indoctrinate/conceal). There is not much more the admins can do for us.... the internet is what it is... it changes on a daily basis... all we can do is report back to them on our experiences.

I personally, again, am very impressed what simple team is doing here. The game is long out of the stores... and still it is all working QUITE well. All we can do is give feedback. Thanks to all the admins, bud, tuia, Arkos, sunshine, you ABAS etc etc nameless anyone here giving us the joy of this game. And thanks big thanks to s[sk] from AX for patching the crap out of the game so people still find the servers.

Next month i will try to play the server from China again, last year i was able to play "ok" with a ping of ~210 ms hmm

This time i be on a backbone in Shicheng City. Going through my "personal" VPN server at home in Amsterdam.... i wonder if i can get a bit OK K/D ratio... but i doubt it, i start to suck at the game more and more.

Hell, i even might be arrested for using a VPN server... lol... dont worry i be fine. Using a VPN is now illegal in China (for all the obvious reasons).

Take good care all, have fun!

my 2 cents,

iCQ

There have been a few complains about SiMPLE regarding lag and ping issues, so I think it's possible servers will be moved soon.

Re: Moving to Paris

.

i just made this chart, showing monthly player averages for the recent five years, based on gametracker numbers

green = ax
red = simple fra
purple = simple rtr/sw
blue = simple tanks

01.png

events :

september 2015 : attacks against ax and simple usa

february 28th 2018 : simple servers switch from roubaix to paris

around may 28th 2018 : mysterious sudden ~ 33 % rise for simple fra

i dont know the reason for that may 28th 2018 increase, my best guess is that it was related to the official global bf v announcement in may 2018, which infoed about bf1942 too, thus making people play it again

january / february generally have the highest player numbers. simple fra is currently at 26, maybe the lowest ever. not a good sign

the simple switch to paris resulted in a ~ 35 % reduction in player numbers in the short term. if the same happens for the upcoming server switch, simple fra will be at 19 - 20 some months after the switch ...... virtually a disaster

there are likely good reasons for the switch, but it will maybe, sadly, result in near-destruction of simple servers (ive been wrong with predictions before). will be interesting to see how much the numbers will be affected in the coming months

Nice stats! About the move, this time it will be smoother. The last server change was made in a rush, and the redirection only lasted for 1 month.
