Can't start BfVietnam server

Hi all,
I recently had set up a server of BfVietnam, v. 121, on Ubuntu host.

But I can't join the game! When I try to connect, my screen is just black and after 5 minutes I receive @Disconnected from server@ message

But if I set password, game asks me of it before join, so it is not firewall.  Besides, nothing is blocked in ip tables.
It's like, connection is established but stuck.

What am I missing? May be it is because GameSpy being down, I need to block it's port. But what port was for bfv?

I can PM ip and password so volunteers may try to join and help me to resolve this.
Any help will be appreciated.

I dont think you have to block the gamespy port as that server no longer exists anyway, i think you dont need key for lan mode so you could try that (should be able to connect by ip and port)

Yeah, LAN works, but I want to start internet server. What could be the problem with that? I have the key btw.

Hey,

I might be able to help with this...

Are you using BVRM/BFSM? If so, I assume you get lots of errors when you try to enable internet mode and restart the server? Even if not, try the below.

You need to edit your hosts file to point to a different location for a master server, I've used qtracker for ours:

or more specifically:
https://www.qtracker.com/master-gamespy-hostfile.php

Not sure if there are others, but this works for us. If it doesn't, let me know. I've got 2 BFV servers running so hopefully it wont be too difficult.

Now works,thanks a lot! But still, I don't understand, why it is needed.. I thought it's only for statistics (query server)..

I assume it looks for a master server to tell people your server is there, then when it can't it just doesn't start. Just a guess though, glad you got it fixed!

Lan doesnt check for keys, it doesnt announce to master server but you can always connect directly if you know the adress and port nr.

Its propably like SucceededKiller suggested that they built in some extra checking tool in bfv server, no reply back = no dice. Anyway glad you got it goin, nice there are still people taking some time to fix things for this old games.
