I was late in in on bf2, i remember it as: loading..loading.loading..join map loading.. loading.. loading, spawning, get spawn-raped, spawning, get base_raped, spawning get teamkilled..
Gave up and vent back to bf1942

lol... wrong server, dude... wrong server...
...
Tried different servers, even made one myself but found it very hard to mod as they had changed from centralized recources to map based recources. (SSM - serverside modding)

I said it some time ago. Only with Bf 1.41 you can mod it. They made some strange restrictions in 1.51.
...
It was hard with 1.41 to, in bf42 all objects is loaded in memory so you can put whatever gizmo there is in any map you like.
BF2 can only load those objects thats in the specific map you want to use.
BF2...hated the spawn campers on some maps, loved throwing the Blackhawks around...but the jumping just pissed me off as you spent most of the time in CQB shooting feet!
I might have given it up to easily, i didnt have the fastest computer, so everything took a long time to load, i tried to find some map i could like that could remind a bit of bf42, i remember spawning totally clueless (who reads the manual anyway?) and get killed very fast, often by own teammembers wich i suppose perhaps the same level of cluelessness as i was.
But there was other things that i got hung up on, on the map wake there was a big carrier but as i remember it, it was more or less just a piece of crap with no real defence or anything.
Some years went by and the game came out cheap on sale, so i bought one copy to a friend, tried playing some servers with him, but mostly just felt lost.
Made a own server when i had the chance to see if i could learn to get along with the game that way, but always reverted back to bf42.
