The Great Britain is the successor of the British Empire, the most powerful country with its colonies, dominions and protectorates some time ago. They used to think of themselves as "great" long time before the EU.

Not so many countries left to separate. It doesn't matter a lot these days.

Here is the map of the British Empire. You know how it looks like these days. Don't forget to pay attention to the current British territories underlined in red.

Re: Brexit came through...

and so it begins...

"...In the blink of an eye, as the Brexit shock sank in, British stocks and the pound took a heavy hammering, with the currency alone falling from its highest point against the dollar this year to the steepest drop in more than three  decades.

In the first ten minutes of trading on Friday, London's FTSE index shed $164 billion of its value.

London's banking stocks, slammed by Brexit's impact on exports to Europe and the fall of the pound, lost more than $60 billion in value...."

Investors will buy Gold and Swiss francs and SNB buys Pounds, to weaken the SwissFranc. But they have to buy a lot of Pounds.

1.10 was allready heavy for swiss from 1.50 before some years. (Euro-ChF)

Re: Brexit came through...

UK will have now 2 years for this Brexit. This will be a hard time. Analysts think, that's not possible to reach this between 2 years, it would need up to 5.

We (Swiss) know, how difficult it is to bring through all those "new" contracts with the EU.

We are in uncharted territory, it's difficult to say if we have made the right choice. There is certainly a chance of a second Scottish referendum now.

Re: Brexit came through...

There are better argument speaking for leaving the EU if you ask me. I don't think it will be harder for GB now, maybe on short term. The economy of Germany is great, it means the companies are doing well but the people are doing worse and worse. The EU failed cause the EU is not a union of people it is a union of lobbies and companies. It is hard to break these structures to chance this undemocratic system. I think it was the right choice cause it was the only way to show the EU that they can't do what they want.

Re: Brexit came through...

Here is what i dont like with EU

"Sweden's membership of the EU means that Sweden should follow the rules of the EU institutions to decide.
If Sweden does not follow the rules , the country can be brought before the European Court of Justice .
If a Swedish law is in conflict with EU law , the EU law that applies."

http://www.eu-upplysningen.se/Sverige-i … ska-lagar/

"If a Swedish law is in conflict with EU law , the EU law that applies." I guess this is same for all EU members?

How does it work in the USA? I have the impression every state has many own laws? Like age for driving licence? (sorry for my ignorance) I know there is a big lobby "industry" in USA, and the same goes for EU, while in Sweden that does not (or atleast not in the open) exist.

In a documentary the reporters found out that one of our representants in EU got influenced by lobbying and it was like she didnt really realize it herself (these lobbyists is really good at this things).

There are federal and state laws since each state also have their own constitution.

(Driving permit age is 15.5 & licence is 16 in US)

No. They'll have a warrant for their arrest. If they get identified anywhere by cops in other states they'll be sent back.

Driving license is good example; each state can have restricted licenses (have to drive with an older driver) and unrestricted licenses.  Age for these unrestricted licences can be up to age 18; depending on the state.

State of Hawaii is in the news for its new law requiring all gun owners to be registered with a federal gun database and state of Hawaii notified if that person is arrested anywhere in USA>
