new laptop, new windows 10...no problems...it may have been i had soo many BF42 patches installed plus the issue of the game not overriding the laptop video settings (conflict with video settings).
all works
look out fkrs.....poo slinging coming your way...
ee eee
It causes one other specific issue that's a bit weird - usually after exiting a map the menu (at least on the server browser screen) doesn't show the secondary level of buttons. Ie. all the Update Server, Join Server buttons are invisible
Aww yes! i had this same for so long i can remember, have to press singleplayer button and then multiplayer again, then i can see the buttons again.
Im so used to it, it thought it was/is a bug in the game?.

what driver version / os have you got bud?
I've never seen this issue except with the latest drivers (16.1). Before that I was whatever is default in win 10 vanialla (15.00??), before that something old aswell (prob early 15s or 14 something).
nah that's exactly what it did. I *think* it's working fine though now. Haven't really changed anything - currently have blackscreen.exe and bf1942.exe running with admin rights but no compatibility, after trying them both in xp sp3 compatibility mode which didn't work (mods loaded without crash, but maps hung halfway through loading). Anyway if it stays stable I'll confirm details but I think maybe I got lucky or win 10 has some amazing self-healing properties.

So I got a new computer with Windows 10 this week, installed CDs and steps CD install as normal; you'll need to run setup from disc (it doesn't autorun afaik). Origin ymmv.
2. Install 1.6.19 patch (google a link - standard official download).
3. Install 1.6 to 1.61b patch (google a link - standard official download).
8. battlefield_1942_gamespy_patch_v1.61
and "Direct Play"
Also someone on ax told me to DL Directx 9 which I did but when I check my system it still shows Directx12.
And I can get to the lobby but when I go to join a game screen goes all black and ESC, Alt F4 do nothing, and even ctrl alt del won't let me close it and computer is stuck and only way to get back is to restart my whole friggin computer. Do I need to do the FH steps and if so can I do them now after I already did step 8? Thanks I need to be playing!!!!!!!!

No I have run that one:(
oh well im sorry thats all the suggestions i have
Ok try this .................
If you have Microsoft update number KB3086255 delete it from your system, you may have to search registry for it as it sometimes will not appear in update history. Try join a game again and see how that goes.
If that does not work then try this ..........
Delete any custom profiles you mat have setup and try join single player game, at this point you can recreate your custom profile. If you are able to play single player with new profile try again with multiplayer and post back your results.
Good luck

There are two ways of doing this in windows 10 :-
1) Go to windows update then click "advanced options" and then "view your update history" and then "uninstall updates" . You will see a familiar window listing all of the current updates and a search box that you can type the number into, find it and delete it.
2) Go to search windows from the start button and type "regedit" this will open the registry and then go to "edit" --> "find" and type KB3086255 in the search
Another thing you can do if you cant locate the file is to open a command prompt as administrator and type the following :-
sc config secdrv start= demand
sc start secdrv
Hit enter after each line and that should stop the update from running. If after all of that it still does not work then the problem is likely to be with your custom profile getting a bit screwed so you may need to reset it as described earlier.

Another day, another ATI/AMD update (16.7.3, sue me, BF1 wouldn't run without it), aaandd... another broken 1942 install. Exactly the same issue.
Just gonna have to go back over my previous solution and see what works. Maybe go back to 16.1, probably just uninstall, reinstall, see what works - could be a video.con issue, who knows. On the plus side, it *was* stable last time until this. So there's hope. Until the next ATI update, anyway. And it was nothing to do with the dual shock afterall.

Ok fixed again. Still not sure exactly what did it, but...
- Installed battlefield_1942_gamespy_patch_v1.61 from http://team-simple.org/download/
- Installed FHSW_v0.552_Setup_Part_2 from http://www.moddb.com/mods/forgotten-hop … /downloads (you probably need part 1 and FH installed for it to work, but I already had them, see previous posts).
- And at some point I think I updated the AMD drivers again.
- Also continually messed about with compatibility settings. Ultimately they still need setting off (unticked) on both bf1942.exe and blackscreen.exe to work.
Anyway, few restarts later, it's fine. Hopefully. Until the next driver release...
Another minor addition:
- Turn off any and all overlays, especially the Xbox Game DVR on Win 10 (Open Xbox App > Settings > Game DVR > Turn slider off for "Record game clips...").
- You'll probably need to restart too; before or after trying the following as well...
- Enable compatibility mode to Win XP SP3 for BF1942.exe and Blackscreen.exe, run 1942, try to join a game (it may hang / crash), exit, disable compatibility mode on both, reboot. Ymmv.
