Trance here, yes ouchsies all ^^
i have trouble launching BF in school, everytime i try to connect online, my game crashes, every SINGLE time.
it does not even take me to desktop, the crap crashes my whole computer and im stuck restarting it, big wtf?...
Im running windows 7, np with firewall and I have tried multiple compatibility modes, none of them works. when im in home it
runs flawless, there are no errors. This is the same laptop i use on both places, i dont know what kind of shit is causing this?
i suspect the network but if there anyone with a idea, it will be much appreciated.
WELP!!!
depends unfortunately on your chipset , and mainboard type, mate.
you can always install a virtual windows xp inside win 7, and play it from there
perhaps changing a few things in bios would help, but i dont think so
Georgie idk about chipset/mainboard, i will check for sure, if thats the problem, ouchsies.
virtual windows maybe, i cant play 1 hour over there LOL, only limited time not rly worth it.
dont want to go gandalf on pc, mine is already fucked and one wrong move will send it to grave.
tuia, game do opens up, the FAIL happens when i click the multiplayer button - froze poooww!!!
singleplayer do work. in most public places MP dont, i even disabled my firewall, annoying shit yes.
if the ports are blocked like u say, i might use VPN, still i dont have much hope to resolve this...(
thx guys!

Hmm... I think I can make a patch to avoid that freezing problem. I'm almost sure it's the same thing when Gamespy server is not responding, it freezes the game when you click Multiplay>Internet button.
In the meanwhile, try to connect directly to the server (create a shortcut to BF1942.exe and append +restart 1 +joinServer 188.165.220.115:14567) in your school network and see if it works.
will try tomorrow, thx lets see.
same happens when i tried playing from school pc. it freezes when i click on internet. it has to do with the firewall set up by the admins
still trying, not working atm.
Have you tried to connect directly to the server as explained here: http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=166 posts #14 and #15?

G, if u want to run virtual machine for XP under win7, it depends whisch version of win 7 u have
I have Home premium, and I can not have virtual machine, it requieres higher version of win 7 (i guess pro or ultimate), i tried to do that and get win 7 message - u do not have rights to... upgrade win 7. damn microsoft

will try virtualbox,many thanks
only noobs buy home premium, i have the pro and ultimate on third computer, and i have just tested it under windows 7, and it works great, the only problem might be, depending on your GPU driver settings, because not all virtual machines, or boxes will support full features of your graphic cards,....
perhaps this topic will help you guys : http://communities.vmware.com/thread/399066

I really don't know how this software works in Windows Home Premium because I never use functional-limited versions of operating systems but I guarantee it works well on Windows XP, 7, 8 (Professional or Ultimate) and Windows Server 2003 - 2008 R2. Also, this software released under the terms of the GPL. You can install and use it for free.
UPDATE:
today i tried to fix this problem but i did a very big mistake, my game got corrupted, black screen all over the place.
my bf1942 box have all the CD's apart from the first 1, so im quite screwed xD and yes i uninstalled the game completely.
what should i do now? order a new one or get torrent? is this game gone from the stores? kind of bad timing cause i really liked it ((
Download Battlefield 1942 (for example, via BitTorrent) and reinstall it using your original CD-keys.

Yes, download from a torrent and use your cd-keys.
I understand what do you mean with my comment "how to" you have edited recently.

Glad you understand. I hate to edit comments, but in this case you were handing out too much information, which would only keep me more busy.
Got it, my downloading is half way done, seems like forever with these torrents..
Finished, it is working and i see the folder where u can put cd key in, havent tried all yet.
i cannot join SiMPLE or other servers, my patchswitcher cant too, it says i have to update it
to 1.6, do i need a patch file or something else? the torrent game do have problems showing server brower though..
You need 1.6 and 1.6incremental patch you can find them on bf1942 liga site
Download Battlefield 1942 v1.6 Patch and execute it.
Donwload BF1942 v1.61 no CD and widescreen fix. Unzip in your BF1942 directory preserving directory structure. You'll be prompted to overwrite BF1942.exe file and Mods folder, click yes to all and you're done.
