Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

Its impossible to play at the server at this moment, last 2 weeks have been crazy, each time i go and try to play i cant even inf. Can you please reset the server?

It was perfect when it was 64 players, since that change its gone downhill.

If this continues ill stop playing here and i would like to be removed as admin please. All other servers its ok for me but here its impossible, i cant have a bit of fun and 5m after I enter the server i immediately want to leave. I cant play and admin like this, having huge headaches each time i go to the server.

Lecter, it's your computer problem. Can you please play in MoonGamers when it's full with 64 players and see if that lag still happens?

all good with 64 there, huge difference. It cant be my computer, i have this pc since 2007 and i never had this lag, jitterness, whatever. Occasional lag yes but that happens to us all. Tuia, its not a coincidence, since the move from 64 to 72 or 75 players happened all smootheness vanished, many players think the same. I was able to play with my eyes closed now my prioritiy is to adjust to lag every single movement i do.

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

this topic has been active for a long time, but, yes, simple is the only server where i lag like hell(tbh, i m not even trying to play on other servers for some time now), and new computer, with new windows is on, for a few weeks, and lecter is very right, when it was 64 slots, it felt like beeing a boss.
but, to know if we are wrong , can you please put it back for a day, or two, just for lecter and myself, to test it ???

Ok. I will reset it to 64 players tomorrow.
It's really strange this, I wish I knew what is the reason.

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

Lecter, no disrespect - as far as I remember, you have experienced lag for years, on many servers, including Moongamers, where I often played with you at the very same time and had zero lag. I think most of that lag has been related to your own PC in some way. It may be your PC hardware, windows installation, malware, net connection or something else.

In this case with SiMPLE / 72 players - I'm 90% sure that it's your PC that lags and not the server.

Get a decent PC dammit :-)

But just to test this "lag issue" and before doing drastic things like cutting down to 64 slots, how about a lot of us get on the server from now on and next 24 hours when the population is above 64, and try to pay attention to if there is lag / more lag than usual / less than usual, etc.

It's almost impossible to conclude that the server lags just from one persons statement out of thousands of players. 10+ will give a much more precise picture.

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

Lecter, I was once had lag with my old computer.  I was fed up with it.  The problem was the FPS.  I was getting 10 FPS while playing bf1942 on 800x600 resolution.  =/  So, I built myself a custom computer designed to play the latest games.  The lag simply disappeared on bf1942.  Just saying that lag is cause from the computer, not the server.  If someone is getting lag from the server, then EVERYONE would get lag from the server.  Not just one person.  So it is your computer or internet.  Mostly likely your computer since internet is rarely a problem unless you live in a third - world country.

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

As Lec said, obrigado Tuia for the test, well, i have just tried on iwo jima, and i lag much less, how can we explain it ?
computer is atm :
Intel Core duo e8500
2x4 GB GEIL ddr3 1600MHz (ok windows xp32 bit sees 3.25) , same situation with lag when i run under win7 64bit (other partition)
1xWD caviar black 1TB (64MB cache)
Ati Radeon 6850 with 1GB ddr5 (Saphire)
Fortron 500 Watt
MB Gigabyte with latest bios, (didnt install speccy to check the name of it, but it s a good mobo).
All WDM drivers , latest, fresh windows installation , and latest directx .
In fact , i don't experience lag in terms of frame dropping, but in terms of game play, most of the time in inf, i have to shoot at least 1 m in front , which now , when 64 players is on, i dont, and i can play inf , more or less ok.
tuia, can we just keep the server with 64 slots for a day, or two, so , we can all test, and ask people if it feels better ???

Yes. It will be running with 64 players slots for some days.
Do you have any antivirus running in the background when you play?

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

I am using Microsoft system center 2012 endpoint protection, with windows firewall on ( fully compatible , since it s a microsoft's program)
now that you mentioned it, months back when i was using kaspersky av2011 the situation was different, hmmmm, i will also try and remove it, just to check
thx for the idea, but the only test that i can do, is to connect directly on router, and not via LAN network that i have here.
Perhaps lecter also has some homemade network doing crap job on his gameplay????

I will bring this PC down to basement , and connect it directly to router(disconnecting every other thing from it), and will let you know about the issue, because it might also help others

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

I don't know how to explain this but I had some problem with Battlefield 1942, running on Windows 7 x64. Sometimes, it has crashed without any error to appear. I have disabled the virtualization feature in BIOS and there are no more crashes now. Apparently, it has some relation to mysticism. smile

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

well, i was playing berlin now, and i could play as a boss , almost no lag, how do you explain that lati ?
and my processor + gpu power is more then enough for this, in fact i had a radeon 3850 before that and it was running smood, so , no, it s not my comp issue, i d love to blame on my internet provider 95 %, and 5% on simple server, because @ 64 slots , there is almost no lag

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

Makes no sense to me that 8 players make such a difference. My pc is soooooo old (needs approx. 10 min until everything is running after restart) and my inet ist so bad (3mbit - man, I am so happy once I have received the new inet provider in my street  who offers 100mbit-.-)...
And I have never lags. I don't think that this has something to do with ur comps. Must be ur inet connec to server which is bad (not the inet itself...just the connection to server)

I always had lag but it´s just a regular lag, rarely it avoids me from playing. But this lag never. And i dont have it on other servers. There are times, on SiMPLE, that i cant even hear the sound of my gun. Ill try this afternoon the server with 64. When it was 64 it was perfect. Il cross my fingers...

I want you to notice that ping in the majority of cases does not depend on how much bandwidth you have, cause 3 Mbit/s is quite enough for Battlefield 1942. It mostly depends on the route to the server. Try to execute pathping %IP% in Windows console. Who knows, maybe it can appear a problem.

That's exactly what I tried to say @nämeless^^
It is not so bad but I am lucky because my connection route to server is good

Unfortunately, couldn't say the same about my connection route to the server. My ping is "jumping" from 60 ms to 170 ms. It makes me look like my avatar at those moments.

This can give a clue as what you describe here is client side, as its your own gun you should here the sound immediately when you press the button. If it was any problems with the server or internet it should be the other players that couldnt hear your gun.

edit: just of curiosity, have you tried different connection settings?

Re: Server reset - huge lag, jiterness, ping spikes

an easy way to see fps you can type fps 1 in the console http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108 … j/fps1.png
it should look something like this http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108 … nShot4.jpg
i have some problems with my graphic judging of the regular downward spikes, for some reason my card will not run at full capacity when i play bf42 http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108 … j/5850.jpg  so i often lag when there is too much things happening close by

thx Bud, I did tried different connections but still the same. Ill check the fps now but i´ve done it in the past and seems normal.

Btw, i was having alot of stutterness with my mouse, occasionaly jumping, for example i would aim to a tank, using tank, and suddenly the jump would make me shoot like 5 meters higher...and im talking a 1 on 1 situation, face to face, where u rarely miss it. I just cleaned my optical mouse and my mouse pad, first time i did it, hope it helps a bit

this happens, its a game bug, and u see it goes 5 m above but it still hits the enemy, so in these situations keep aiming the tank as normal
