Tonight is THE night.

The Tuarid meteor shower is NOT about a large amount per hour. It is about FIREBALLS!
Hope someone out there with clear skies, gets to see these babys and see the smoke trails, flashing and explosions from one or more. You will remember for a lifetime if you see one!

Re: Tonight is THE night.

whhoootzz - tonight is Karmageddon aready huh ) - damnd, a pity, totally cloudy here in central-euro, anyway prolly not the right area to witness them hmm?!

Saw such a thing years ago when i was on my way home by car late night - although it was a bit further afar and therefore a lil smaller than that in the vid it was very impressive, i stopped and could see it flying for over 20 secs before it disappeard, first i wasnt sure what the heck that is, lol if it had changed its direction i for sure would have been convinced its an UFO..

Re: Tonight is THE night.

Have these been going on for a bit? My dad's friend does photography and when photographing the northern lights he saw a few earlier this month. He said one lit up half the sky! I tried to see them... but fell asleep sad It's gonna snow so I won't see them again sad

Re: Tonight is THE night.

Sunshine,
It takes a good week to completely pass through the remains of the comet so tonight is the BEST night but there are always early arrivals and the late few stragglers.

Zeus will indeed be tossing some fire tonight Monkey! I hope you have clear skies. No moon to speak of so conditions are optimal!!!

Count its an incredible sight to see something blaze that long in the sky. You are indeed lucky to have seen one and the ultimate.....is to see one explode. Its the pyrotechnic in me...........woo0hoo!!!!

I hope everyone whom takes a few moments or an hour to look, gets the big payoff. First time you see a fireball is usually followed by that dumb look of awe,.......followed by that bright smile of holy smokes!!!!

Re: Tonight is THE night.

I watched last night, I think about 01:00 EST to about 01:30 EST; I only looked at the clock after I came back in.  We had very clear skies, but some light pollution from the neighbors, plus I let some tree branches block part of the sky so I could avoid some of the light pollution.  I had a pretty good view of the part of the sky I think I needed to watch, though.  The clear skies made it nice because I could look at the stars while I was waiting to see meteors.

Toward the beginning I saw a fireball, then a little later I think I saw a streak out of the corner of my eye.  Later I saw another streak, then some time after I saw I think a fireball, but what struck me about this last one was how far across the sky it went.

Thanks for letting us know!

Re: Tonight is THE night.

I am glad you were able to see some. We had clouds with occasional breaks here. I was able to see exactly none!  :-)
We always have another good night about every 10 years for this one...............
You are very welcome for the info.

Re: Tonight is THE night.

I saw one this morning! It looked red and then white. It seemed to move slower than the usual meteor.

Re: Tonight is THE night.

We had a couple of nice clear nights at the end of October in S.E. Australia and saw plenty from the Leonid showers. We had a great vantage point on the coast looking East with no light interference. My 2 boys were absolutely stoked to see them and yes,, much slower & brighter than a normal shooting star/meteor. We watched one for at least 20 seconds.

Re: Tonight is THE night.

Happy there are others that may spend time staring.......up......for long periods of time...........NOT looking for Aliens either.......
I used to sit with my 3 boys for hours up in a hunting club property in the middle of darkness. They knew the location backwards and loved being there. We spent plenty of nights staring from those fields...............and more contests than I can type, for: "Who sees the first satellite" We still play that game to this day.
