No, let's better install static submarines over the defguns at Omaha to shoot the beach with torpedos. I would prefer to stay away from these useless ideas.
I did a server side mod of omaha with a carrier instead of the destroyer.
It was kind of interesting but I don't know how to change the out of bounds on the server side so it is really annoying to hear "deserters will be shot" every few seconds.
No I don't think that's a good idea. A few more tanks would be a cool option?

Seems like an awesome mod. At least it could be runned FOR A WEEK for lulz.

Would be even cooler if planes would have like 40 seconds timelife and then they self-explode. So the pilots wont camp and just rush the flags!

^^ The main point was to break up the Axis camping at the wall.
Hard for allies to do anything when there is a tiger and a panzer in premium camping position.
I can remember a Omaha Mod on a server in 2007(?), it was pretty nice. The out of bounds were changed and axis had a Stuka which spawned on that field at the hill at the top flag.
Allied had a M10, Sherman, Priest and a Jeep and Axis a tiger, wespe and apc spawn.
But I think it was a Omaha Only Server in the past. Don't think it would work with 64 Players on Simple[FRA]...

You would need to change the area mapping which is very simple to do, I run a Berlin map with bridges to the other side of the river which would be officially out of bounds but we have moved the mapping to include this area.
If you are really interested in doing it I will pull up the files and look up how it was done
In the real battle at Omaha Beach USN destroyers were able to put direct fire on German positions with their 5" guns.
With the current configuration of this map the fog makes this unfeasible.
I would like to see this map have the fog reduced enough that you could at least see the pillboxes overlooking the beach and be able to fire on them without having to guess where they are. This would be more realistic, and also more fun for gunners. It could work both ways, such that it would be easier for the destroyers to be seen as well; the destroyers (and landing craft) did take fire from German artillery in the real battle.

Meh, the pillboxes on the middle flag do nothing. As long as you keep moving, the chances of getting killed by machine gun fire or sniper fire from these pill boxes is almost zero.
It's the defguns and the tanks that end up being the issue. It's already really easy for the defguns to hit and sink the destroyer. They can't see it, but their snipers can see it and spot it. I wish there were an easier way for allied snipers to spot the defguns and tanks without capping the middle point. I have no clue how that would be done.

I agree about the pillboxes, but to be able to see them at least would 1) help you avoid TKs on teammates going up the ramps, and 2) make it easier to estimate where the defguns are. However, if visibility were increased to allow you to see the defguns that would be even better.
I don't have any experience with modding, but I assumed that since this map limits your visibility with the fog and some others don't, that the visibility is a parameter of the map, and therefore may be configurable at the server. I've looked around on-line to find some more information on this, but a lot of the information is geared more toward cheating. I did find a tutorial on a modding site that talks about a couple of parameters that affect visibility and fog: Game.setViewDistance and renderer.fogend. What I'm still not sure of is whether these parameters can be done on the server end only, or whether everyone has to download and install the resulting modified files.
Do any experienced modders or server admins know if this is something that can be done with only a change on the server end?
The mod for Omaha that I want is the Axis def gun ho's have to play 10 rounds of Allied for every one round as Axis.
I think ATF has/had a mod where the foremost pillbox was a defgun and there was another one at the top of the hill on right side. Of course, there were no bots to steal the ship....

Dink..I've played a map like that ....with an axis permanent spawn point across the river...in the middle kind of...
is there a spawn point over the river on that mod?
I will post some screen shots might help explain it.
The map was a bit of an experiment and is still on going. Essentially there are two temporary bridges made out of the roofs of def guns strung together, you have to out these in to make the bridge visible. The out of bounds has been removed across the river and two kettenkrad's are available at present. There is also an Axis APC that also acts as a mobile spawn point which can be moved around the map, Allied team also has one near their main in ruins to left as you leave allied main.
Each team also has one jeep which has been turbo charged using an engine from a torpedo but beware these jeeps take damage as normal so you need to stay in control. We play CTF and with these tweaks it kind of makes it a fun map and we tend to see more mines being laid tactically because of high speed jeep escapes. We tend to get a good mixture of engineer class, and assorted infantry which makes it entertaining.
Having the route out of Axis main across the bridge does lead to some fun games and does add a new dimension although some more development is required the ideas can be translated to any map including CQ.
Spawn points can be placed pretty much anywhere you like and done as a SS mod.
