Which Windows to choose

Tomorrow normally, I will have a new high config on my computer.

But i don't know which windows to choose ... (Vista, Win 7 or Win 8)
I looked for many informations on internet and it would seem that windows 7 is more stable than the others.

Wait your opinion, thx in advance.

Re: Which Windows to choose

Uhm, don't think u r able to buy Win 7 anymore. Vista is crap and Win 8 is the new standard... so get acquainted to the logo's tongue

Still playing BF on dualbooted XP, but when I have to swap I would go for Win 7.

Re: Which Windows to choose

If you are building your own PC then you can choose from either Windows 7 or 8, stay away from Vista it's the worst software Microsoft ever put out.
If you are buying a "name brand" PC (Dell, HP, etc.) then you will be limited to Windows 8.
I currently dual-boot my PC with Win 8 and 7, I have BF installed on the Win 7 partition so I can't give any advice as far as running BF on Win 8.
But I can say I too like Windows 8, it is very stable with any other programs I run which are many.
But if you decide to go the Win 8 route I would suggest installing Classic Shell also to give you back the UI of Win 7, unless you are also investing in a touch screen.

Forget Windows Vista. I think it's a matter of drivers, I have to use Windows 7, because of it.

Re: Which Windows to choose

...

There is another question

> Which chipset you have? With Haswell and after you are not any more able to make an Dual OS with XP. XP is still good for some older games. I dont have Dualboot as usual, but 2 OS on 2 Harddisks and i choose it over a Hotkey from the Mainboard itself. And a Dualboot with 7 and 8 is not the same. For myself it would be nearly useless.

To the Question, if 7 or 8. I have both.

> Since 8.1 Windows 8 is much better then before. It looks nearly like windows 7, except the Menus in Explorer and those programms. What is still unusfull for me, are the apps. I don't like and don't use it.

> I have installed Windows 8 (32Bit) on a 5+ year old Dell Travelmate with 3 GB. It's much faster, then with XP or 7. It runs very very smooth. I was surprised.

> But on the other side, some Games don't run on windows 8 without a workaround. Perhaps some don't at all, i don't know. The question will be, what games you want to play.

> It depends on yourself, ... if you can accept the changes from 7 to 8.

You could install a trial of 8 and test it out. But without 8.1 or other menuchanges, you need a time to become friendly with. It runs very smooth, that's a fact.

Re: Which Windows to choose

You buy a very expensive z97 deluxe Board (with WLAn and BT or the cheaper one.) for this cpu? I guess, you want to overclock the G3420. (It's a dual Core CPU). But for Games which support Multicores another CPU would be better.

Perhaps you should safe money for the board. You could buy an ASrock z97 board and take the rest of the money for a 4670k or so. And Memory, you could take cheap 1866 cl9 or 1600 cl9 memory.

The Monitor is a important thing, you should find some infos about.

If you speak german, then look here http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/kaufber … teil4.html

If you won't spend not to much for the monitor, you find a cheap one, which is also good for games.

A cheap one is this http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/20 … html#Fazit

Otherwise a Benq 2411Z would be cheaper then the 2420z. and iboth are 144Hz Monitor. (But in both cases, it should be a Revision 2/b and enough strong hardware to reach at least 120 Hz.

http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/kaufber … atung.html

Besides... z97 is haswell

and which graficcard you have?

...

besides... the fix don't helps in any case for the crashes. It's also hardware depended. Some have crashes, some not.

...

You could take the Asrock z97 extreme 4, or a fatal1ty, but both have no WLAN and BT. But if you never thought avout Crossfire or SLI, you could also take a cheaper one. It's possible with any AsRockBoard to overclock any CPU.

Re: Which Windows to choose

It's too late, I received all smile

My graffic card is a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512 Mo.

In fact, in buying mothercard Deluxe, i thought that the processor was included in.

Imagine me when i received my mothercard without processor lol.
That's why, i bought a processor of average range then wink

Re: Which Windows to choose

...

For games which support only up to DualCores this cpu has enough power, overclocked. On the other hand, the 8800GT needs not little power. A newer midrange card would have much more power and more little powerusage.

Anyway... the graficcards Memory isn't enough to play newer games in higher quality. You should deactivate allways Antialaising/SSAO/HBAO

If you need once some infos about any hardware, feel free to ask.

...

The CPU is a top choice for Price/Power , but you would really need another graficcard if you want to play newer games.

But it's anyway DX9 and then you can manage the settings. But perhaps it's not enough for 1920x1080. (for newer games).

I would spend some money in a new graficcard too.

Re: Which Windows to choose

Here you find some infos about OC

http://www.legitreviews.com/intel-penti … _137016/12

Today systems you can OC inside Windows. To play BF1942 you dont need to do that. Only for newer titles.

Re: Which Windows to choose

I strongly reconmend win 7, but if you can't get hold of a copy - win 8 is fine.
TIP! - You can download a Classic Shell file, and basically make win 8 LOOK like win7 again wink

The next thing, once in future... is another graficcard. If you choose the right one, you could play all games in high quality. Also with that CPU, but OC. That would be absolutely essential.
