So what? Seperatist shot down this plane with a weapon system they either gto from russia or captured themself? Thinking it would be some ukrain transportation plane?

USA sattelites should have records from which place exactly rocket was lunch, if it was separatists who did it, this records will be published

In 2001, it was an act of Ukrainian army's incompetence. They shot a civilian plane down by mistake.

What's really strange for me is that I still can't find the record of the conversation between pilots and the flying control officer from the Ukrainian airports. As far as I know, they should lead the plane inside Ukrainian territory. Instead of this, the Security Service of Ukraine published that "leaked" record with separatists. I think it's the way easier to publish the official record from the airport than to intercept mobile phone talks of the enemy.

i'm no aviation expert but my guess is that the communication with regional air authority happens only on entering and leaving the area
so unless they were after the point where russian ATC should have taken control, not much could be heard there

btw, listening to air traffic is a hobby of many people (as it's unencrypted AM transmission somewhere around 100-130MHz), if there was something interesting, it'd be already in news

The plane's crash spot is very close to the Russian border and they at least should ask the pilots if everything is okay with the plane to pass control to another side.

steps:
1. google some map with airspace definitions
2. find out how far it was from russian airspace
3. find out what's the usual distance for requesting entrance to an airspace
4. find out what's the order of communication with ATC of airspaces you're leaving and entering

there are strict rules so you should be able to find out if anything was out of ordinary

if ukrainian ATC saw that plane on their radars and their vector and altitude was ok, i don't think they had any reason to contact them

maybe if you made those missiles slower (not like 3x sonic speed), pilots would have time to radio stuff like "umm, there's something in our rear mirror, any idea what's that?"

i've read it was due to thunderstorms and they were in flight corridor for civilian planes (there's finite number of flight corridors over each area)
military planes don't use them

not much could be heard there

i was tempted to create an mp3 with silence but then i realized that it should contain communication with all the other planes in that airspace
