I think if ever there was a time for a direct military intervention in Iraq by the United States, now would be the time. ISIS needs to be stopped. The last thing the Middle East needs is a extremist-sectarian Islamic caliphate destabilizing the region.

Having said that, I have a great deal of sympathy for the Kurdish people. These are a people who have suffered through the worst civilian genocide in the Middle East, and who have been fighting for an independent Kurdish homeland for nearly a century. They are currently the largest ethnic group in the world without a country. With the present crisis bringing Iraq to the brink of collapse, the Kurds might just be able to break away and form an independent state. Things are looking promising in this respect!

Anyone have any insights into the crisis?
