Hi All
Have installed and reinstalled and installed Vanilla BF1942 (CD), patched up to v1.6, used the punkbuster installer to install punkbuster and installed the maps from the new maps installer - however I still cant access your 188.165.220.115:14567 server ( I either get a message saying "Data differs from server" or the game simply crashes.
I am running vista ultimate 64bit which naturally installs to C: program files (86) (and I have also tried to install to the standard C: program files folder - I have also tried running in windows xp (service pack 2 ) compatibility mode but still no joy!
I can seem to join all other servers I have tried without any issue though ..... hope someone can help.

I bet that the new maps aren´t in the right folder. Thats why it says "data differs from the server" and occasionally crashes the game.
They have to be in following folder: Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Archives\bf1942\levels

Nope - I wish you were right but they are in the correct folder

You need 1.61 version to connect

You can copy any files to any game folder and it won't cause "data differs" error if original files aren't modified or replaced by new ones

Yes, you need to update to Battlefield 1942 v1.61 and then you can join all SiMPLE servers. Download Battlefield 1942 v1.61 No CD and widescreen fix and follow instructions inside.
Did you edit the map ? I know I had this problem once (and nowadays I have this problem on Gazala but I don't mind I never play it). In fact I had opened the map with a map editor in order to look at some settings I needed for one of my own maps. I just opened the map and stupidly inconsciously saved. And when I tried to play the map on a e-server, it show this same message and back to main menu... I tried to get the map from a friend, it didn't change a thing and I had to reinstall the game. But try to get the map with someone anyway. Beware some maps are "map.000 ; map.001 ; map.002..." you'll have to take all the file of the map.

That's why you need to have a copy of the game specially for ruining it with BC42
did you solve ur prob Abstract?
I also have this "Data differs from server" problem when I want to join the SiMPLE server. But I do have v1.61...

"Data differs from server" is usually caused by none basic BF1942 files.
You should check the files from the map folder till the basic folder. In the map folder you should have only *.rfa files, beacuse if you had there other like mappack.zip or something else the game will crash. But if you can go to other servers, and you can't join to SiMPLE only (i think beacuse of content check 1) you have some extra files.
Or just copy and paste the list of the files you have there and we can help you.

Did you check it?
I do have some custom maps in my maps folder. Maybe that's the problem.

does a zip file in maps dir really can cause crashes? i have maps.zip in the maps folder too and sometimes my game crash..

which maps? if u have them in yellow folder it can also cause data differs from server

Never mind. I moved those maps, but still get the error. I think it's not the custom maps though, since I have them for a looong time and I always could join the server. But now I just can't join. So strange.
reinstall then
or get the torrent from Technical help

It can be everything, for example somehow a file changed, a file is in the wrong folder, sth wrong with the registry. Did you run an application like a registry cleaner, stuff like ccleaner, that can cause problems too.
As denny mentioned uninstall the game, remove every file and folder of bf and reinstall it then.
Aww.. One thing's for sure: I'm not gonna reinstall BF1942. Means I gotta reinstall all the mods and custom maps I have (and I got LOTS of them).
I can join all other servers. It seems I only get the error on SiMPLE..
Thanks for the replies anyways.

goodbye then xD
Custom maps you do not have to remove. Copy and paste, thats the secret;)
Mods, i guess you still have the installer...
Mark, you can't connect to SiMPLE server or any content-check enabled server, because most certainly you have modified vanilla map files. If you edited, for example, Kursk map in Battlecraft42 and saved those changes or you have a el_alamein_090.rfa file in levels folder, it will stop you from joining content check enabled servers.
You can reinstall BF1942 easily to solve that problem, but first backup your Mods\DC_Final, Mods\IS82, etc. and your Profiles folder. Then after new installation, just copy those folders back.
Millerke wrote:Yes, i did.
Well, I can't create any zip archive which would cause game crash, can you upload one?
Sunny, it happened me one time, when i didn't unzip a mappack zip, just copied to the levels folder and the game didn't start till i delete the zip from there.

The "Data differs from server" error is not only caused by the levels folder, it can be caused by extra files in the upper directories, maybe he has more files than the normal BF1942 files.
Mark: Did you download something? Can you pls post the file list of your BF1942 installation?

Few days ago i messed up my Dedicated Server programs 1.612 and 1.61, i used them both and i forgot which is for what..anyways after that i got that message that data differs from server, i reinstalled the game and thats it.
You have to organize ur folders better, not just put lots of stuff, just reinstall the game and make copies of mods.

you have a el_alamein_090.rfa file in levels folder
That may be it! I do have such files. I'll remove them later on and I'll try to join the server again too.
Then, you are using cheats. Delete those files *_090.rfa files and you are fine.
trolololo, what are those 090 files?
