Battlefield 1942 Questions & Answers

fellow 42'ers ... post your bf1942 questions here ... maybe somebody will have the wisdom / will / motivation to answer them

yes, there are already several threads here containing potentially similar info, but no pure Q & A ones. i dont think one more topic will hurt, or scatter info too much

time will tell if this thread fails (¬‿¬)

a few self-replied to start off on :

- when was bf1942 released ?
september 2002, road to rome : february 2003, secret weapons : september 2003, on origin without rtr+sw : november 2012

- can speeds and distances be measured in bf1942 ?
console.showstats 1 in the console enables on-screen x, y, z coordinates and speed based on the metric system

- sizes of the biggest and smallest maps ?
in meters : midway, guadalcanal 4000 x 4000, berlin ~ 230 x 285, stalingrad ~ 280 x 415

- how fast and high can airplanes fly in bf1942 ?
all planes can reach roughly 900 meters above ground / sea level. top speeds for fighterplanes : near ground / sea level ~ 240 km/h, at max altitude ~ 340 km/h, dive from max altitude ~ 475 km/h

- how many original maps are there ?
without expansions : 21. expansions, road to rome : 6, secret weapons : 9

- is there bullet drop in bf1942 ?
no. shells do drop though

- what affects loading times from map to map ?
primarily cpu and storage (hdds, ssds etc.) the faster the better

- has the bf1942 game (client) been released for linux ?
no, but can be run under linux using the wine emulator

- is there a site somewhere showing current bf1942 servers ?
this shows most but not all : http://www.gametracker.com/search/bf194 … 0%23search

- is there a framerate limit in bf1942 ?
yes, per default the games upper limit is 100. higher or lower can easily be set using the renderer.lockfps command

- how many frames per second can a modern pc produce in bf1942 ?
depends on many things, but primarily cpu, gpu, resolution and graphics details settings. example : i7-3770k + radeon 7850 at 1920*1080, max details ... average ~ 500

- how many players are generally online ?
october 2013 (all mods, all expansions), average : daily high ~ 1000, daily low ~ 250

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

questions i dont know the answer to :

- i assume there once was a competitive clan scene in usa ... when did it die ? was it similar to bfleague.eu ?

- ive heard about the legendary “ghetto berlin” server. where was it located ? how long did it exist ? when was it shut down ? was it berlin inf only ?

.

Re: Battlefield 1942 Questions & Answers

Ghetto Berlin was on a couple months ago. Host is Twitch, and it's hosted in the southern United States if I'm not mistaken. Hit him up on Xfire to know what the status of the server is. PM me for his Xfire.

Does this mean that "air resistance" decreases with altitude? The higher you fly, the faster your horizontal speed will be?

Re: Battlefield 1942 Questions & Answers

to my knowledge, yes

it can be verified in many ways, for example :

by flying in a plane and measuring the time it takes to go from point a to b at low / high altitude

or by typing in :

console.showstats 1

in the console (open the console by pressing [~] or [½] or [§])

that command will display a lot of numbers on the screen, one of them : posSpeed is speed in meters per second

and position which is your location in the map 3d space in x, y, z coordinates (y is height / altitude)

Re: Battlefield 1942 Questions & Answers

yes i think u go a bit faster when u reach almost maximal height, but compared to if u fly 50m above ground then its a big big advantage ofc

just measured fog ranges in meters. the numbers are ingame visual estimates, using console.showstats values

they were measured from an objects surface and till it got completely hidden by fog
