You only have to compare the physical performance of both players at their respective ages—looking at what they achieved in that regard—and Messi leaves Maradona miles behind. Let’s not forget that Maradona was awarded a goal scored with his hand... something that would be completely unacceptable today, of course.
Not to mention the drug-related episodes that dragged on for years...
Not really, first of all football evolved a lot and back them it was not so technical. With the knowledge of today Maradona would be much better. He even used cocaine and won the championship with Neapel in Italy. It was him and 10 average players. That's why he is like a god to them. Also 86 they only won because of him. Imagine he had everything like Messi and didnt do drugs.
About the hand goal: I watched the game at some point (it's on YT) and England played lame and deserved it. They played the ball back to keeper the whole time and back then it was allowed to pick up the ball. Maradona just punished it, because the defender passed again back to the keeper. Anyway, beside football Madonna is a personalty. Messi is a wall kissing puppet.
