Battlefield 1942 Plus

Battlefield 1942 Plus is a collection of patches to the game created by uuuz, which improve and fix some of the issues with Battlefield 1942. A significant patch is a fix to a recurring crash when the game is minimized. Also, the game no longer switches back resolutions when loading intro videos, menu and game windows, the resolution is the same and can be set. As well as, fixing the ping display to correctly show up to 3 digits in the scoreboard. In addition, you will be able to reconnect faster to the server when there is a map change. There are several other fixes and enhancements listed in the Battlefield 1942 Plus page, check it for more information.

This is an ongoing project, several other enhancements are being worked on and planned to be added later.

To install it, you download dsound.zip file from the Releases page, extract it and just place dsound.dll file in your Battlefield 1942 directory. The game will be patched in memory, when you launch it, and the dll file has the option to update itself when a new version is available.

@uuz well, I hope your employer rewards you. The desync issue is not only present in BF42, it exists in new games as well like CS2. Cracking down on it by simply fixing some code is not gonna do it I believe. Most traces lead to electricity/grid and windows install to be the culprits. It exists on your computer. Sometimes you can "fix the game code" simply by changing the usb ports of your mouse and kb, or plugging your monitor into a different wall socket. It is an exciting topic but the plebs here want to remain oblivious. I've brought it up since 2017 on this forum
@darcano I have an older laptop which supports both bios and uefi - installing windows on it one way or the other drastically changes the way bf42 behaves, especially flying. It may be different for others, I've confirmed it on 3 machines.

I'm just now reading this post and I'm a little surprised. I've noticed for a long time that this game is really strange in this regard.

Even if we're just talking about infantry.

I don't understand why or how it works.

You can't just launch the game and play it without it always working properly.

If it's not graphics issues, then sometimes it's frame rate issues or getting hits from enemies.

Re: Battlefield 1942 Plus

The way windows is installed determines how your mouse behaves. Whether you become a tanker, a pilot or an inf is decided by it. That's a very hard pill to swallow for 99% of players. Skill exists, but your OS will make you able to play a certain category much better. A player with ''tanker windows'' will not be able to fly as fast and turn as well as someone with ''pilot windows''. ''Tanker windows'' plane will literally fall out of the sky when dogfighting or simply climbing and turning.
For sure some have noticed how a player doesn't have to aim as high up with a tank to land a shot far away.  And another player will have to aim to the sky, tank shells have a bigger curve. Or when someone's plane flies unrealistically fast. That is exactly what I am talking about.
This fact also applies to weapons classes e.g sniper.

All of this actually makes sense when you start to think about it. ''No, that player wasn't born with a better sense for flying that that other fella''. Also, tanking windows has become more rare in BF42 because new systems usually enhance inf and flying. Think JUNIOR.
Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Here's a random post from another forum:

Re: Installing windows with a usb 3.0 flash drive causes a awful mouse feel.

I’ve noticed a difference in between certain installs, mostly GPT vs MBR, (UEFI vs Legacy), it’s all about what is loaded up when booting, so wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case, my last install was from a 3.0, so ill order one and see, funnily enough I feel like the last time I had good mouse movement was from my old PC’s that still had disk drives and Windows was installed from that

This is an interesting theory. I will try out tomorrow morning.

"UEFI vs Legacy boot Legacy with CSM enabled tends to give me a more traditional mouse movement feel, while the times I've tested UEFI with CSM off, it gave me a more floaty mouse cursor type movement."

More interesting than simply playing
