I suggest you to download and install the patch, i mentioned.

Patch does not want to download correctly. This is getting too complicated, maybe time for another game. Should have left it alone

..and what's about that "Masterserver patch"?

If your servers update when you hit the update button...you don't need it. You've already got it.
If they don't .you do-
   Click 'New master patch to update server list' above.

Don't give up yet.
Your pc may have blocked it.
Some pc's don't like exe. files
Try again and look for 'no entry' signs on your top bar.
Click and let it allow the download.
Good luck

Alternatively reinstall the game from scratch. I've found that always works when I get a seemingly insurmountable problem.
(Download Battlefield 1942) above which now includes the patch I believe.

I went to ADD SERVER and found it there... just hit join and was playing with BF and Alverez .... my ping was awesome!! Can't wait to see a full load of people on it and check ping then....

Five days of 'cold turkey' may have been enough for many to break their 'addiction'.
Here's hoping the 'urge' comes back.
Mine is still strong
Noobs like myself like a bit of a crowd to hide behind lol

Optimising server settings back to original is helping.
Let's be patient.

Give it some time, population will grow again. We can think of an event for Tanks a lot server and perhaps even repeat it weekly.

I've tried the Masterpatch and all Simple servers show up now. Trying to update server list used to result in a screen freeze for me. Not now. I just left everything to luck and hoped the server problem would reslove itself. After weeks of waiting I investigated here and by hook or crook found the solution provided by other members.
