What happened to the AX server

Hi, I haven't played this game in years. I downloaded it again to take a look, but I saw that the number of players on the AX server was 0, and when I looked at it from the gametracker, it showed the average number of players at 9. How long has this server been dead or something?

Re: What happened to the AX server

AX has seen a sharp decline in population over the last 2 months or so.

Re: What happened to the AX server

Maybe the death bubbles combined with lack of admins, made that airfields are glitched with ghost wrecks on most of maps, and finally disgusted users... ?

Re: What happened to the AX server

the modus operandi of aX is almost perfect, less the fact that death-bubbles got exploited by some1 with an agenda. gazala turned into an unplayable mess. had to take a break.

Re: What happened to the AX server

It was not just the death bubbles; trolls and teamkillers (not to mention hackers) have free rein there and there are no admins to deal with them.

somehow i can easily stomach cheaters, trolls and tk'rs - roghly in that order. Deliberately wrecking a map - meh.

Looks like the server has been invisible for some (many?) players. https://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic … 55#p169455

I haven't played BF42 for a few months and I thought I would also have a problem with the aX server, but as it turns out, everything is fine. The only thing that surprised me a bit happened two days ago when I was refreshing the server list and I noticed that the aX server wasn't responding a bit longer than usual as it happens when the map changes, but luckily everything is normal now.

A bit off topic, it's very sad that one of the biggest BF42 servers that lasted for a long time (even without admins) was lost in such a short time. The owner of the server hasn't shown himself for a long time (at least publicly), but at least the server is still kept alive, especially the MasterServer.

Re: What happened to the AX server

Once that master server is gone...

This game is going to become battlfield vietnam, where 90% of remaining players bail.. .thinking that all the servers are gone forever...

Very few people will think to just "add server" and join via IP. Let alone know/ obtain the IP's... GameTracker will be needed..

I hope we as a BF1942 community can keep the master server up for as long as the game lives. When it's gone, we are losing hundreds of players/randoms that visit our servers daily. You'll still have your dedicated players that know how to join via IP, with their respective communities... but the whole "maybe some randoms will join" yeah kiss that goodbye.

Sad sad....

Re: What happened to the AX server

There’s already people working on building a backup master server I think.

90% of BF1942 are SIMPLE + BF-League players and they are unlikely to leave even without a master server.

I don't think anything is as dire as all that.

The first position being that I'm not aware of AX getting out of the BF1942 business yet, regardless of what's going on with the game server right now.  But even if it's not any time soon, we've still made offers to take up the master server if or when AX ever did want to get out of the business.  Given how long AX has been here, I can't imaging that's what they're looking to do; but sometimes life happens.

Second of all, how can this be the end of the world, when it's exactly what already happened once before?  Even if AX did walk away with the master server still under their arm, give us a little time and we'll make a replacement master server.  That's exactly what already happened once, and exactly what we're running on now with AX.  We'll just do it again.

Note there we also at least three or four third-party game browsers still querying and listing Battlefield 1942 server, at least back when AX was in the process of developing their master server replacement.  Seems like at least one of them even setup their own master server replacement to compete with AX; we'd have to dig up those discussion threads again.

Re: What happened to the AX server

sad Bad news.
"What you have to do, as a player, is replace your BF1942 executable with a patched one, which has master.gamespy.com server replaced with master.bf1942.sk and several other fixes included. You can do this automatically by downloading and running this patch file ..."
So if "master.bf1942.sk" died, it will be a big problem : "master.gamespy.com replaced with master.bf1942.sk" in every downloadable *.exe-s

And as i tested, BF42 -> Multiplayer -> Internet -> Freeze/stuck for me sad

If you haven't already installed https://team-simple.org/download/battle … _v1.61.exe, you may want to install it now.  Back when master.gamespy.com originally shut down, we all got exposed to some unforgiving timeout EA had used for contacting the master server.

In addition to replacing master.gamespy.com with master.bf1942.sk as the default DNS name, the patches provided here on Team-SiMPLE also reduced that timeout to something reasonable.  So even though the master.bf1942.sk server is knowingly down at the moment, the patch can still help avoid a "seemingly stuck forever" situation whenever the master server is unreachable, for whatever reason.

In my own testing just now, it seemed like it was 20 seconds before I regained control after pressing "Update" in the online server list.
