I would like to setup some North America vs Europe matches for infantry, and would like some input about ideal server locations.
So far it seems the only place that makes sense is somewhere in Iceland. I think teams located on the East Coast of North America and West Coast of Europe would ping about 60-70 in a server located there. Players in Russia and Western United States would be in the 100s.
I think bud mentioned a server in Iceland. Is this still something you were considering?
NASA and the Interplanetary Observation Institute of Michigan.
.
as usual ... 000 ... got a better solution ....
apps exist that can increase ping ... down to 1 millisecond intervals ....
example http://jagt.github.io/clumsy/index.html
just google words like : network delay simulator etc.
so anybody can increase their ping in bf1942 to any given value ... but of course not decrease lower than their base level
so for example if euros, americans, wanna fight each other, they can do it in a new york server ..... the lowest euros will have ping around 85 and up .... the americans that have lower than 85, just use a ping delay app and set it so they reach a desired high value
solved
Your solution is retarded and you know it. No one in their right mind would download an app to increase their pings. Most people here don't even know how to install a custom BF1942 map.
The server should be located somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic, for example the Azores, or even Iceland, for pings to even out.
.
you should behave
no, its a good way to solve the ping problem, ppl download apps all the time, theyre easy to use and can be switched on / off quickly ... this one is even portable, so no install...
its way better than looking for a server in iceland / greenland / azores
...
Arghhh!
...
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea or downplay the intelligence of the community. Many are already downloading a patch to play or a two-part installer that has to be extracted.
Downloading should be encouraged and not discouraged. We have a Mod Community after all! Those organizing on these platforms would benefit from two simple acronyms. Let's work to get away from the idea that things are just too hard!
1. O.H.I.O. - Only handle it once. ( Can delivery be streamlined? )
2. K.I.S.S. - Keep It Super Simple. ( Can all steps and parts be combined before the user gets it? )
Galactic Conquest for instance boast a single-step ISO that installs BF1942 with the game. It has over 2'000 downloads. That is 2'000 users who were introduced to the game via a Mod and not the other way around!
