So I have directplay enabled, have the widescreen patch, run as admin and sp2 compatibility. Only way the the game loads is if i go into my display settings and run 800x600, then open game and choose 800x600 as well. Anything other than that, freezes black when I join server.
What step did I miss?

What is your normal Win resoluction? 1080?
Do you have a custom profile for BF?I don't run BF in any compatibility mode, but my Win res is 1920 x 1200, so in the
C:\BF1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom\Video.con
there is this:
rem *** Generated ***
game.setGameDisplayMode 1920 1200 32 59
game.setDetailTexture 1
game.setShadows 0
game.setEnvironmentMapping 0
game.setGraphicsQuality 2
game.setLightmaps 0
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 2
game.setPerformance 0
I'm 1920x1080.
My video.con is:
rem *** Generated ***
game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 32 60
game.setDetailTexture 4
game.setShadows 1
game.setEnvironmentMapping 1
game.setGraphicsQuality 3
game.setLightmaps 0
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 3
game.setPerformance 3
If I change resolution, it crashes. I tried keeping my windows display to various resolutions to match or diff in bf42, but nope. Still wants the 800x600 -.-
Correction... I just joined while keeping the win resolution 1920×1080.
Progress!
Just tested it again with different resolution combinations. Only will do 800x600. I don't want to play in a little 800x600 blind old person screen
Also, when i alt-tab out, the game closes. No freeze, crash error or anything. Just exits the game. Not like before in windows 7 where sometimes it would freeze then crash if i dont tab in after a min or so.

maybe it helps to save it as "Read only" in Properties?

Set compatibility Mode of "Blackscreen.exe" also to "Run as administrator"
...
If you installed Bf1942 on a new Windows 10 Installation, you should put an old D3D8.dll into your Battlefield 1942 Main Folder to avoid forced vsync. (Solution from RaKleZ).
Take one of those and copy it into your MainGameFolder

Blackscreen.exe is set to run as admin.
Will try one of the dll files...
Update: Still the same. Any other resolution other than 800x600 goes black into a small screen.
Also... the game is in a box, like the 2 black bars on the side. How do i widen that shit up to 16:9? I thought this had the widescreen patch... maybe not.
Should I have downloaded a different installation of bf42? This was the "HD" one Tuia had from years ago. Did someone else maybe modify an installation to adjust for win10?

What if you use this direct link to connect Simple, just to avoid the Menu 800x600 Resolution.
"C:\bf1942\BF1942.exe" +restart 1 +joinServer 194.88.105.25:14567
(You have to set the desired Resolution in video con first).
...
Another question. What graficcard it is?

Joining directly to the server works
Thanks!
It is an old laptop that I just got (but still way better than old pc lol):
CPU: Intel Core i7 5500U @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Graphics: DELL SE2719HR (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Toshiba)
Basically going to use this as my desktop replacement until I buy a new desktop.

But if this works, it looks like the Laptop is not supporting 800x600
Can you set 800x600 at Windows Desktop?
...
If not, add a custom 800x600 Resolution in Intel Driver.
After that it works as it should.

No matter what i do, i cant get it widescreen. I changed fov to 1.33333. No matter what resolution, it stays 4:3. If i click escape to change resolution, it crashes. If put in 1920 x 1080 in the video.con file, it crashes. I tried 1024x768, which i used on my old pc, but it still 4:3.

It might be worth tinkering with your scaling options in your g-card settings.

The next Desktop Graficcard Generation will have a Limitation for Mining.
On the other side they will produce Mining Cards.
Good for us.
Beside, i guess it's allready active, they made updates for the Calculation of Mining.
End of summer, i hope, the graficcard Prices will go down, and short later you can buy all those half year used graficcards cheaper.
Anyway. The next generation will have normal prices... let's see.
