Ludo is my favorite board game. Funily enough in Albania we call it "Burrec mos u zemro" which means "little man don't worry".
Arab mathematics and the algebra understanding is a biggie. Backgammon we used to play OFTEN! I now wonder why. I actually miss it now that you mentioned it.
I have no problem giving "Ludo" a try as well.
Current fav: Playing a card game called "31" for money. (Its $3.00 American per game.) NOT a lot of money but when 7 play, you can win $21.00 American each game and play up to 6 games per session typically. Ya we toss in the "shots" when one screws up enough. Mandatory shots!!!
:-)
when i came back from the U.SA i brought with me another awesome game called JENGA, you know the tower build game, my group of friends and i use to play at it very often who ever drops the tower gets shots of wishky, if we are 6 playing, you know what happens
LOVE JENGA! And......see below for a "different version" lmAo! Yeah,......we do shots too and it DOES get real!!!!

Never became used to the backgammon to finding it boring, guess i'll have to play it more cause i really want to like it
the initial setup is quite tricky hehe...
it rocks a lot.

lol that´s giant and it looks fun, once someone talked to me about this JENGA, but i think we will buy it.
and im here with Chess..my favourite board game
great game for timepass ...
playing chess will improve your thinking, decision making etc. ...
only the intellegent one wins in this game...
No chance for luckers..
Longest game time of chess ever recorded is 20.15 hrs.

This game catan we played a lot. we were a grope of 5-6 friends that had regular play nights. i have many good memories from this game.
That "Catan" game looks similar to an OLD PC game called Civilization some years back. Looks like fun. Just have to figure out how to weave alcohol into the fabric of the game! Shots for each advancement? Chug a beer when the animals double on the farms?
:-)
JUST KIDDING on the alcohol.
Well at least a little........

Odd thing as I became older, I lost my strategy playing chess and seems like I became WORSE with age!!!
Likely, the folks I played with, all became better players as we got older.......with the exception of me. We used to play chess every lunch break and study hall years ago. Now, they all kick my butt in Chess but it is likely one of the smarter "thinking" games, which is why I fail I guess. I miss my smarts. If any of you folks, happens to see them laying around on the battlefield, I would be so pleased if you would PM me and let me know where they arel
I stole them Pleiades . I needed more smarts myself . thank you hehehe
Chess ; to come into the feeling of a battlefield I like to see in it's .... sunglasses.

We also play this alot in iran , and the other side there is snake and ladders game
This was a favorite back in the day:
Risk is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of Earth, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six continents. ... Players may form and dissolve alliances during the course of the game.
For board games... we used to play Scrabble a lot. Monopoly was just too long and irritating. I'm more into the collectible strategy card and table top rpg games.

My dad, brother, and uncles play Risk. Not just regular Risk, but they have a bunch of different versions. They have this one that they have to keep the board up for weeks just to finish.
Yup, Risk for me.
Spent many an evening in the 90's with some mates playing this, usually world domination and it went on for hours.
Really draws you in with the strategy side of things and then paranoia sets in when you are trying to protect your borders.
Just bought a classic version from the 80's, mint and sealed similar to the one we played back in the day.
I can't be doing with those fancy plastic game pieces of the later versions.
Been meaning to teach it to my eldest daughter and her boyfriend, see how they cope with my megalomaniac tendencies
