It was so successful as anti tank gun, that Germans modified it to fit in Tiger 1 and Tiger 2, so their main gun was actually 8.8 cm flak.
It's speed, range and penetration power was beyond any anti tank gun that any other country had at that time.

I still use one of these on my dashboard.
Doesn't work that well but keeps me primed for BF1942.
