Making a team-simple map

I would like to see if there is any interest in making a "team-simple" map, like if the gamers and modders in here could work together and make a really nice bf42 map or two.

Or just use one or two of the existing maps as a base and make them a bit more modern perhaps. For instance one could make them "base-rape proof" if that is desirable.

Maybe an inf map about the Liberation of Paris a better Berlin (you know, with the Reichstag as last stand) or the Defence of Moscow map!

Maybe the battle of manchuria, it was a very unique combat between ruusians and japaneses troops.

I think I’d be willing to do it if I had more specifics about the kind of maps we’re making.

Stuff like the theatre of war, geographical region, time frame, factions involved, do we use custom objects or not, how big the maps are, the type of map (infantry only, tanks, or everything) and even the mods we should make the maps for would help.

Maybe a better Berlin map?

A big infantry map with some tanks and the Reichstag as last stand.

The factions would be Soviets vs Axis.

I dont know a lot about mods, i think the default game would be enough.

I know nothing about making maps, but I think it would be a great idea if all of you got together to make some new awesome maps.

I really wish BF42 was able to allow people to automatically download maps when they try to join a server with a map that they don't have. It would make things a whole lot easier to get these out to the public.

Your second paragraph is a very valid point, I think what deters players from playing custom maps is the games inability to have an automatic server-to-client download protocol. Unfortunately I don’t think the Refractor engine is advanced enough to do that. The best one could hope for would be a redirect when a client tries to join a server with a map he doesn’t have to a URL where the player could download the missing map, individually or in a ZIP.

The game would have a window pop up that says: “Map not found, would you like to download it?” and then when the player chooses Yes they are taken to the site where they can download the map in question.

It sounds good. I’ll do it, but not right now, maybe in a few months, because I’m already working on a map.

As bud said above, I think it should be a map consisting of all 3 BF1942 Gameplays: Infantry, Vehicles, Air, and maybe a few boats thrown in if there is some water. I think it would balance it out nicely as a lot of people like to play infantry, but also like tanks, planes, etc... Just my 2 cents

EDIT: I would also be able to add bot support for it and pathmap the map as well, so people can play it offline or if they're bored

Also i think you should keep it pure cosmetic... just slap some SIMPLE textures around...

Seriously... take the most popular map and mark spray it with the SIMPLE brand. Maybe add some funny cool area's, objects and/or vehicles....

Or are you thinking of doing a map from scratch? U gonna need help if you do (i be here).
