How to join a server

Really simple question I know....

I'd been away from BP1942 for years. A couple of months ago I started joining some servers via Gametracker Lite, but that seems to have shut down.

I really have no clue how else to join a server. I tried looking server IP addresses up on the Gametracker website and typing them into the 'Add server' option in the game but that doesn't work.

Is there any other way ?   Is there a Gametracker Lite alternative ?

Real shame as I was just getting back into it....and realising how much more fun the original was compared to the latest versions.

Thanks, will do, but won't this tie me to just one server? Is there a list of others anywhere ?

If your game browser freezes when you press update button , then download gamespy patch and install it

as abas said press the update button, and normaly you will see all simple servers

In game browser doesnt freeze, game just fails to start.

The ip madmax gave works.

So, generally, the way in is to find simple servers or type in ips ?

Or is there a gameteacker alternative ?

It makes things easier than  typing in ips
To  find simple servers click on PLAYERS

OK I started again downloading all the BF1942 files, the original, RtR, Swatec and the patch. Now I get a freezing screen when I try to refresh servers. And when I try to run the patch I get a dialogue box saying "The code execution cannot proceed because BFCPRT.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this probem"

Any ideas ?

Probably not the issue, but just in case, make sure whatever method you're using to launch BF1942.EXE includes making the Battlefield 1942 program directory the current directory.  e.g. If using a shortcut, make sure the "Start In" directory in the shortcut is set to the directory where BF1942.EXE is located.  I've definitely seen the game fail to start if BF1942.EXE is executed without the game directory being the current directory.

Then set Compatibility Mode to Windows XP SP3 for:

> Blackscreen.exe

> BF1942.exe

...
