SW/RTR Competitions

I'm building upon DER WAFFEN's original idea of hosting an Objective game mode event on SiMPLE's RTR/SW server.

How about having some competitions for the expansions too? I don't think we've had any of these ever since SiMPLE first started hosting servers.

I think it would be cool to have little tournaments in the expansions. The different vehicles, weapons and maps add more variety to the traditional vanilla competitions we've already had (Tanks Nations Cup, Knife Cup, Infantry 2v2 and 1v1 Tournaments).

In the days when I was playing BF Secret Weapons Demo (2005-2012), we had a lot of different competitions over the years. Death Match tournaments, TDM tournaments, racing tournaments, dogfighting tournaments and infantry only tournaments such as CTF. The demo communities often came together and hosted these fun events. Here is a competition which was hosted by the Elite Sniper Server community back in 2006: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcKzDeAj4Ig

And here is a Death Match tournament I hosted on a modded map I made for SW Demo, around 2012: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xSVom5Mbhk

These were small events gathering a maximum of around 16 players. The biggest SW Demo competition which was ever hosted was hosted by a player called [VS] Zoolander in 2008 or 2009 if I recall correctly. He managed to have I think around 20 players to participate, which was huge considering the player base of the demo at that time was around 70-80 players at peak hours.

Depending on how many people are interested, this is how it could work (and how admins handled tournament organization in the SW Demo back in the days):

- A designated server would be set up for the competitions, under the SiMPLE banner. The server would be passworded at all times
- Only players who do not cheat are able to join the competitions, this goes without saying
- The tournaments themselves typically last a few hours, depending on how they are set up. If we have team registrations, then the tournaments should typically last longer than individual registrations
- The frequency of the tournaments could be set to two per month once it really gets into high gear, that is when a significant part of the SW/RTR community shows interest to participate
- All players (and this will be hard, but not impossible) must agree on a date and time on which they can meet to play the tournament. Typically this day is set to Sunday afternoons and evenings, but it depends on when people are available
- We all play for fun, while at the same time taking part in a friendly competition

Eventually, if the competitions themselves grow beyond what was expected, and the demand for the tournaments increases, a separate website can be set up where all the tournament matches results are found, such as for the BF League. That however is probably not necessary as everything related to the tournaments themselves, including registration, can be done on the SiMPLE forums. Perhaps a new forum section for competitions could be made?

I am going to leave a poll up so people can vote on their favorite type of tournaments. I will include as many options as I can but if I have missed something, please let me know and I will add the option(s) to the poll.

It was DER WAFFEN who proposed the event with objective mode on SW if im not wrong.
I would be more interested in a CTF event, objective mode event or other kind of events on RtR SW, but not really in a competition like you propose(The problem is time; I may have to leave the game after 20 min that I joined cause I have to work and study).
Most members of RtR SW community don't like the competitions that much and play to have fun; so I doubt someone would participate, except maybe Anna, Raketen and Arvernes.
So we could try 1 evening in a week CTF, next week Objective, next one infantry only etc on RtR SW server.
But this requires Mc Coffee's and/or Nameless's help with hosting.

link to trap town DL?
voted for dogfight because it's original and never done before, but infantry (triple) Church tdm in Hellendoorn is probably the most fun gamemode in SW

Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/l303b4ada … own+SW.zip

I also made a thread on the forums somewhere where you can see pics of the map but I can't find it. Trap Town CTF is one awesome map for 3v3s and 4v4s, it has tunnels, you can walk on rooftops and it's just an amazing infantry only map. It would be cool to host a tournament on this map definitely, like we did on SW Demo. Very fun times.

Pictures of Trap Town:

Believe me, Fight For Church in Hellendoorn was fun, but it always ends up being a bug fest aha.

Honestly, back in the days, Goblin dogfights were the best. Much more faster than vanilla dogfights and to me that makes the whole difference.

@Paul: It's true that most play for fun, but we don't need a ton of people to make this thing work. If we had 10 people willing to take part in the tournaments, I'd be happy. If we get more, then that's even better. And I want to make it clear that the tournaments, if they take place, need to be held on a separate server, not on the main SW/RTR server. Most of all, these are just simple tournaments that last one evening. If you show up to the tournament, then you play, if not, then you can play next time. There are no penalties for not showing up nor is there a need to have a strict schedule to follow. You can join whenever you want and it should be flexible.

Re: SW/RTR Competitions

So I decided to start hosting a server dedicated to the tournaments today. Here is the server info:

b_560_95_1.png

The server is passworded at all times. If you want the password to test your ping on the server or if you would like to try the maps there, just PM me. If you try to join the server, please confirm that you see it in the server list on this thread.

You might notice that you can't join the server because it tells you "Map not found". This is because most of the server's maps are made for tournaments. Currently, there are three custom maps on the server which I will probably bundle up in a map pack at one point. These are Traptown, Super Arena and Flettner Arena. I have created a thread for Super Arena and Flettner Arena in the map section of the SiMPLE forums. You can consult that thread to know more about the maps and to download them.

More custom maps are planned, especially infantry conversions of maps such as Essen, Cassino and Hellendoorn. These should not take long to make and I should probably have converted all those maps to infantry gameplay by the end of the weekend.

Also, keep voting for your favorite tournament so that I can determine which map to make for it, or which map to use. Currently there is a tie between the racing tournament and the 1v1 infantry tournament. We only need a few more votes!

Note: You can find the necessary map files that the server runs on this thread: http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic. … 78#p116378

But I see that the server is hosted in France. It will be difficult for you to shine, friends of the New World, won't it?

Most of the SW/RTR community is from Europe, so it made no sense to have the server in North America.

Re: SW/RTR Competitions

Well, it seems that we can't decide between the inf, dogfight and racing tournament.

So tomorrow, I will announce which tournament I will host between these three. The poll is now closed.

Who's up for a 3vs3 on any of the RTR/SW maps ?
Just for fun, the difference in ping would bias the results anyway

I am down. On the Trap Town map for SW, what do you think?

@seventy: I can try recording but if someone wants to spectate the match in third person and record that's even better.
