English video with German speaker. A american documentation about wasted food. (29 days left to watch).
As example... A peach producer in the USA has to throw away 20-70 % of the harvest because the reseller don't buy it. (No real reason why not).

I couldn't find out the original englisch video, perhaps one of you can find and add it.

America and Canada has this problem. There is reason why the stores don't buy it and it is a big and very stupid reason... because the food doesn't look perfect. They need to look nice because they don't want misshapen food even if its perfectly fine. It's sounds stupid but I'm being completely serious. Luckily, that number of 70% is quite a bit high, due to things changing. For example, much of those that are considered unmarketable are often sold at co-ops or given to shelters/food banks.
Stores buying WAY too much food from the producer is also a big issue. They know they are buying way too much because they just don't want to risk running out of certain foods.

In Swiss ~30% and in Germany ~40% food gets wasted. But we have a SellingDate and a ConsumationDate and many people know that it's still good, also when it's overtime a while. But there are also people they don't know what is ment with those dates or they think 2-3 day after is not eatable anymore.

how about exporting the surplus to hunger prone nations, but wait who cares about that.

They did (or do) that with some goods, downside is it can undermine the local markets, the local farmers cant compete with low prices.
In Canada now every market can sell ugly or not pefect (default) fruits or vegetables under a specifique name. You can buy a flat peper or malformation carotte ect for half price or so. At least in Qc province but there's a long way to go for all big super market !!

supermarkets in Australia do that too .. they are called "the odd bunch" and are cheaper than the rest

All the IGA stores I've been to does that. They're awesome. The big store I go to called Publix donates all their misshapen foods, day old bread, etc. Few other stores too. So there's definitely a change happening!
I think the wasted food is still like 30%-40%, which is better. But more improvement is needed!

Exporting is the badest you can make. This is what happend the last 30 years with European vegetables, milk, meat, etc.
In the balance sheet those goods are allready depreciated. But that means, it doesn't matter how they can sell it later elsewhere, the entire earnings are +.
As example onions. Netherlands procudes 80% of all onions. The surplus the sell in Afrika in a country where they eat omions practically to every meals. Those NL onions are cheaper then domestic onions. And after some years the local producers are ruined.
And this was only an example. The 1st world destroyes with this method the local producers/markets and this is also a reason for other problems in this world.

In summer time I always buy local fruits and vegees for freshness and taste but the big problem is that IGA or other super market will offer you exports from Mexico,USA ect.. for lower prices. Our local farmers cant compet whit big multinational. If IGA does not promote local stuff first before exports it will lead the local producers to bankruptcy for sure.
Producers afto import labour from other country because our young generation ( students ) wont work at minimun wage. They should reduce the exportation ?? percent during the season of harvest and increase it back to 100 percent after local harvest.
