Update for Battlefield 1942: Automatic map download!!

Dear Community!

Battlefield 1942 has been around for 20 years now.
And in these 2 decades the game has seen many custom mods and maps.

We all know the annoying message: "MAP NOT FOUND"

I (Arkyliën / henk) would love to create an update for BF1942 that will let BF1942 download the map/mod automatically.

I already have a database of 1000+ bf1942 maps and all popular mods.
I also have the knowledge to make this update.

BUT I sadly don’t have the time.
Since I'm so passionate to make this update for the community I see only one solution:
Are you willing to support me financially?
I expect to need 1000 euros for a very basic version (v1.0)

This is a great initiative. I am willing to donate but I would like to have a better idea of what the timeline will be once you receive sufficient funding to do so.

How long do you think it will take you to release a fully functional product and can you send some sort of timeline to release the minimum viable product (v1.0) please? Also, will you be working alone or need other people to at least test the product once it is released?

As I understand, the client will need to download a BF1942.exe patch that contains the automatic downloader, correct?

Note: If 50 people donate 20 euros, we can reach the goal of 1000 euros.

Good questions Mamba!
I already have a working demo that can download maps when they are not found. I will need to polish this further and add support for mods. Also other functionalities like an updater for the tool itself will need to be added.
(I will work on this project according to the amount of donations. So if the donations stagnate at 600 euros I will deliver a unstable/raw version.
In total I expect to need 2 weeks fulltime in total (of which I already used approx 4 days).
So if we reach 1000 euros this week the tool will be finished before the end of May!
(I still study, so I cant work 100%)

And yes; a player will need to download this 'update' to be able to use it.

Would there be any possibility down the line that clients wouldn't need to download the patch at all? Like the entire server-to-client download process would be handled entirely by the server/BFA. Can you explain that part more please. Thanks.

Mamba, if that were possible then you would have had a 1000 viruses by now on your pc!!
What you are saying is that server owners might be able to transfer files to the client.
Even the master server is not capable of this!

Yes I know about this. There is code written (and also the meme file contains some content) that should eventually lead to this feature. But Dice never finished it. I tried expanding on it. But eventually I went for a different approach.

I would like to give an update on the progress of the project.
The donations started 12 days ago and at this day we have collected 100 euros given by 5 people.
Nevertheless, I have started the development of the automatic download tool.
What can the tool do already?
When you join a server of which you don’t have the map; the tool will download it from the central database and automatically rejoin the server.
Luccawulf made a nice tutorial on how this is done:

What's left to do for v1.0:
-Add mod download support
-In general it should not be a text interface but a button interface
-Add a settings panel with settings like; auto-download etc.

Henk, as I told you before this will increase the years of life of this game. I propose you to put the messages for donation inside the game. There must be more than 70% of the players that only see the game through gamespy, they must not even know that there is a forum.

The community has to understand the dimension of what this person is doing for this game. This is something that we always wanted to do and we couldn't because of the limitations of this old game.

Don't be stupid people, it's been 20 years playing the same classic maps. I say it to the people of Europe that are the great majority, and to those who enjoy 100% of the game for the proximity that have the server, it does not cost anything to you to donate. This update is a real masterpiece.
