master.bf1942.sk

I'm currently in the process of setting up a server that we've rented for 1942.
I have the server listed on gametracker.com, but it won't show up in the built in server list, or on the master.bf1942.sk list.
I understand about the patches changing the host file to point to master.bf1942.sk, but how do I go about doing this for the server we have rented?
The only files I can see on the server are config files?
The server is with Vilayer.

I haven't hosted a 1942 server in 15 years, so any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: master.bf1942.sk

Yes. Just the basic config files etc I can edit. Maybe I need to ask the host to edit something?

Re: master.bf1942.sk

to quote s[sk]:
Redirecting your server to report itself to the replacement server is similar to the client method, it's either done by editing hosts (see above, hosts file on linux systems is /etc/hosts) or by editing server binary and replacing master.gamespy.com with master.bf1942.sk with trailing zero byte (not recommended unless you know what you're doing). You need to restart server process for changes to take effect (no need to restart whole machine/vps).
Modified server binaries can be found on this forum

Re: master.bf1942.sk

Yeah I figured as much. That's my problem, I don't have access to those files on the server.

That is all the files I have access to.

I presume the .exe that needs editing should be in the root directly, like it is in my game install folder?

I've contacted the host, hopefully they can give me permissions to upload the patched file. hmm

Re: master.bf1942.sk

Which file is the one that is patched?
BF1942_w32ded.exe or bf1942.exe?

I'll update when I hear from the server admin, in case to help anyone in the future.

Thanks for the help guys smile

Re: master.bf1942.sk

It's ok, I grabbed this file and I'm waiting for the host to replace the original, hopefully that does the trick smile

Re: master.bf1942.sk

If it's a Windows-based server (which multiple of your posts have implied), you can also use tuia's "Windows server executable patched" downloads from http://team-simple.org/download/.  Or even if it's actually a Linux-based server, and you use the "Linux server binaries patched" downloads instead.  In addition to other fixes that these server binaries are patched with, they also include the replacement of master.gamespy.com with master.bf1942.sk for the DNS name, as described in the included readme files.
