Anyway google for "battlefield 1942 rfa extractor" and i believe v1.1 is ok for bf1942.

There is also a "rfa maker". But u better unpack the files replacing the original. The game will pick-up those unpacked files.

U can open them with www.gimp.org and the ".dds" plugin in order to work with textures. Also google that plugin ".dds plugin for gimp".

I am not sure what ur plan is. Music, models, textures, gui and hud etc are all in there.

Note: most servers would not accept u playing with an "unpure" install! And u better be working with a decent file manager when u mess around with all the files and folders in your game install. Total Commander is nice or better yet www.tcup.pl .
