Battlefield 1942 vs GameSpy

Was the real reason why EA had to withdraw Battlefield 1942 was because of the GameSpy copyright? Why can't they just hack it to remove all references to GameSpy?

If we do this, then they can still put Battlefield 1942 as FREE.

Since they withdrew Battefield 1942 from EA / Origin.... does this mean it's not legally free anymore? Or is it still FREE and we can just get a copy from a friend, etc?

Bf1942 is abandonded, you can download it free as torrent. Mostly there is the afterGamespyFix inside, including Widescreenpatch. Otherwise you find it here > http://team-simple.org/download/bf1942- … atched.zip

Thanks guys^^

I was just wanting to help EA/Origin so that they can list BF1942 again for download. But since it's like "abandonware" we have to resort to downloading it from other people's torrents, etc.
