Rio Olympics 2016

So, the Olympic Games have officially begun.

What are your predictions for your country's results?

I'm thinking New Zealand will get around five or six gold medals; although nine would be awesome (eight is the most we have won in a single Olympic Games).

Re: Rio Olympics 2016

It seems not many people are excited about the olympics in America. Do any of you feel the same about the excitement in your own countries?

I didnt even know all of the games that are played lol. I had to look them up!

I don't know if/what US will win, but i expect them to do well in Basketball. I will def watch field hockey because it's awesome. I don't really know how good we are at summer olympic games :-/

America's first gold went to a 19yo for women's shooting though. big_smile

Yeah, USA woman's team beat NZ, but we got over the Colombians; so we still have a chance.

Yeah, USA usually tops the medal table, so you should do all right, but I guess guys are generally interested in domestic sports rather than international competitions.  New Zealand is a sports mad country and we love any major sporting events: Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup, Cricket World Cup, Basketball World Cup, so long as there's a Kiwi playing; we'll be watching!

It's funny hearing hockey referred to as "field" hockey.  We don't play a lot of ice hockey in NZ but "field" hockey is really popular; so we call that "hockey" and the one with skates and fighting "Ice" hockey.

America is a magnet for people who are unhappy in their own lands; and who want a fair suck of the sav.

This picture is an American victory: before the game is played.

I honestly didn't know pingpong was an actual sport until recently.

I think the reason you don't see any whites from our team on it is rather simple... it's just not popular here with a majority of the US. The people who are into it are asian. Kind of like the lack of black players who play hockey. Not popular for them.

I have to suffer through the performances of our swimmers. I feel you. Rooting for Biedermann later on. I hope he will have a good race.

It was some kind of sarcasm about the politics in sports. Here is the official WADA report and the numbers. There are at least 18 countries over Russia with major percent of positive results of doping tests: France, Sweden, Turkey etc. The first place is for Iran where 9.48% of sportsmen use doping. What about Meldonium... It was invented and certified in USSR and it was legal since 1976 and up to 2015. Since 1 of January 2016, it's illegal and nobody knows why. It doesn't help to gain muscles or power, it's a pharmacology for heart, for recovery. It's even possible to buy with no recipe.

They have no heart problems. Heart is also made of muscles and it also needs to recover after hard training.

Careful, you mate, with that kind of logic.

In France, the flippant way in witch some people take dope (among amateur athletes or physical workers) is doing a lot of damage. The side effects are more violent and more precocious than one would imagine.

Perhaps you mean 'prescription' rather than recipe.  Prescription is a note from your doctor, where as a recipe is how to make something.
