Yeah right.

So I make multiple bombing runs in my Stuka to inflict 90% then someone comes by and drops one bomb or chucks a nade into the entrance and gets all the credit?

#92 Re: Off-Topic » My favourite board game » 2019-12-28 15:23:50

Yup, Risk for me.

Spent many an evening in the 90's with some mates playing this, usually world domination and it went on for hours.
Really draws you in with the strategy side of things and then paranoia sets in when you are trying to protect your borders.

Just bought a classic version from the 80's, mint and sealed similar to the one we played back in the day.
I can't be doing with those fancy plastic game pieces of the later versions.
Been meaning to teach it to my eldest daughter and her boyfriend, see how they cope with my megalomaniac tendencies smile

Thank you.

We literally drove miles in a massive pick-up truck trying to get a tree.
Thought about raiding the Sally Army camp in Guelph but hadn't packed our balaclavas so thought better of it.

Snapped this off as we did a slow drive-by through Tim Hortons.  smile

Yup, and yet get a couple of  intelligent scouts who know how to spot in certain maps and that team has a great advantage.

Sadly, as you say, most are noobs playing out their 'Day Of The Jackal' fantasy.

You tried it with engineer rifle given it's the same weapon to draw a comparison?

If you are regularly getting into a one on one and need to rely on your primary weapon then you ain't a very good sniper smile

aiming at the sky with artillery, shooting blind

That's not strictly true, I've often shot blind when no scouts are spotting and it's pot luck.
I definitely do it on Omaha from the def gun out to sea and keep adjusting trajectory till I see the crosshairs register a hit on the ship but that's not pixel shooting. That's just firing blindly and adjusting until you hit the bugger.

On other maps, sometimes I hit enemy, sometimes I score a tk but if no scouts are putting in a shift then why not.

I assume pixel shooting to be firing arty from a def gun which is static and using a fixed point of reference such as a cloud, a particular bump in a hill you are shooting over or any other static object on the map.

Serious pixel shooters have probably worked out all the reference points in single player and maybe even have markers stuck on their screen smile

Mobile arty is a little more tricky as you can't be exactly sure you are in the exact place you need to be before firing I guess.

Like the noobs that don't understand arty vehicles and where to place them when using them.

#112 Re: Feedback » Map imbalance: Aberdeen » 2019-10-25 20:02:37

It's strange that the centre flag is key to winning this map given that it spawns no vehicles but I guess is almost a border post between Axis and Allies that depending on who owns it can control (with zooks) enemy traffic passing through.

I've seen it 50 - 50, either the Allies park their tanks on the front lawn of Axis base or vice versa.

Key to winning Aberdeen is intelligent scouts spotting but sadly there are not many of those.

Oh, and of course an intelligent APC driver who can park up in the right places out of sight and have the sense to remain in the vehicle so it does not become visible to the enemy.
Seen quite a few good APC drivers on all maps actually.

I put mines around flag in the start of wake ctf.

You need to use a bit of common sense here and not lay mines immediately at the start of a CTF round.
This will allow members of your team to get off base asap without having to worry about what route they take.

It's not like the other team are going to come storming in straight at the start.

If I had my way I wouldn't allow placing mines or expacks around the flag, it's cheap gameplay in my opinion not to mention the risk of blowing up your own team mate if he returns with the enemy flag.

Exactly. Maps like Berlin, Stalingrad and some others are just boring with many players. Limiting it means better gameplay.

I get that but those maps have a cult following. They are Marmite maps, infantry players love it, flyboys and tankers probably hate it.
Limiting it would restrict players joining who want to play that map.

More players on these maps make easy kills smile

Problem with Coral Sea and BoB is that players simply don't get it.

Every player should spawn as engineer, repair then fly.

I've seen noobs spawning as sniper on these maps.

Bit confused about your post though Albo, set a limit for maps that have players leaving anyway?

about coral, what can i say... 45 is suitable

Exactly. The problem is, there's really a lot of bombings and attacking, on both sides. This really triggers players to exit, I've seen the server being full on some map, and then less than 20 players on Coral Sea. If the game is more neutral players will really enjoy it.

Coral Sea is a blast and a welcome change from the norm.
It's all about bombing and attacking, I guess many players that quit simply can't fly for toffee.

I love Coral Sea.
