my eyes! i'm blind now!

fortunately that won't affect my gameplay

#602 Re: Technical Help » The 11 secs spawn delay » 2012-12-17 21:30:21

do you see any correlation between that extra spawn and you player number?
it usually happens to me when i connect to server before the map begins (probably getting high number), almost never when i "continue" from previous map

it definitely is
are you playing it on a phone?
or better question, you actually play on simple? ;-)

Do you know how to increase the font size of the chat and game messages?

haven't tried that because i found it to be just right for me

if it's using one of those trebuchet fonts, you can try to replace it with bigger one, there are multiple sizes included

#604 Re: Technical Help » High ping on the server ? » 2012-12-16 20:18:45

that's a windows command, it shows route to the server
if you get unusually high pings, you can find where is the problem

although you can't fix that yourself anyway ;-)

this is 2x size
doing anything non-integer would be probably too much work in order to not look crappy, this was just a quick hack

anyway, it's a simple format, font in tga and text file containing offsets, anyone feel free to improve it ;-)

2. Affects on the console font.

yes, it uses same font, can't do much about it

i got fed up trying to read player tags at 1600x1200, feeling like 100 years old with wrong glasses so i've enlarged that damn small font

if anyone's interested:

http://ax.bf1942.sk/files/2xfont.zip
http://ax.bf1942.sk/files/2xfont_rus.zip (russian version)

replace Font.rfa in "C:Program Files (x86)EA GAMESBattlefield 1942Modsf1942Archives" with the one in zip

just briefly tested, seems to work

ATTENTION: Using this modification is not allowed in BF1942 Liga matches according to their rules, so don't use it, if you plan to play in BF1942 Liga.

no sound too?

Thanks for everyone, the problem is solved by a practical experiment. I have discovered one thing.
1. When I ping the server from Windows console - no packet loss as well.
2. When I ping the server from Windows console with options -l 1500, where 1500 bytes is a standard of MTU size for Ethernet that Windows can set by default, I got packet loss about 50% but with the keys -l 1500 and -f that disallows the packet fragmentation, I got the message "Fragmentation required".

I have pinged some servers to get randomly optimal value without any errors, changed the MTU size and disabled TCP auto-tuning. Everything is okay now.

i'm happy that you've solved you problem, i just want to point out that your methodology was not completely correct

1. it's udp, so tcp auto tuning has no impact on this
2. icmp header has 8 bytes, ip header has 20 bytes so the max you get with mtu 1500 and no fragmentation is 1500-28=1472 bytes

so if you actually had problems with ping sizes < 1472 with mtu 1500, then you'd set mtu to "ok size" + 28

just in case anyone else tries this too

EDIT: actually i'm not happy that you've fixed it because now you'll be killing me even more...

if you'd be willing to give it a test run on SiMPLE, i can share it with you

maybe on the weekend

Assi wrote:

Sometimes when I see nearby explosions my game starts lagging.
Anyone has a clue what's causing this?

This might be caused by the same problem: sometimes when I start my pc up I don't get to see my desktop, only a black screen, followed by a no video signal even though I still hear my pc running.
Sometimes this even happens after I started up fine by example: I clicked on renew windows experience index and screen turns balck and I have to reset.

Is there someting wrong with mobo?

i'd try to update driver for gfx card (and maybe check whether its fan is working if it's not onboard one)

yea, they've rereleased it with at least 2 known exploitable bugs in dedicated server
that was also on purpose because they care

they just took the old source, didn't change a thing except version and origin integration
