Has anyone tried out the mod yet? Any thoughts?

Ah yes forgot to mention, the installer works only for those of you that have Origin.

Thanks tuia, I will correct that.

1. MOD PRESENTATION

This modification is an infantry only mod which was made in order to revive the dying infantry scene in Battlefield 1942. It is a ''pure infantry'' mod, meaning all grenades and other explosive devices (except in Objective Mode) have been removed.
The maps have been created to allow for maximum action: small in size with scenarions varying from urban to thick jungle terrain, players frag eachother in mayhem!

The mod has the particular feature of being unpure, meaning it can be hosted on an Internet server with Content-Check turned on. With PunkBuster enabled, this allows for maximum protection against hackers.

A special game mode, Objective Mode (based on the map Battle of Britain and the Secret Weapons expansion pack), has been coded for the competitive clans and teams. It requires acute teamwork and communication to win. Regular players will enjoy playing the TDM and CTF game modes, which have been designed for intense Internet matches.

2. FEATURES (v0.1)

- Added HandWeapons (Bren LMG, Breda, Sten, Fallschrimjager Gewehr 42, Commando Knife)
- 5 different assault weapons for all classes
- Removed grenades
- Smaller crosshairs for all SMGs
- Added Objective Mode GPM from XPack2
- Disabled minimap for TDM and Objective GPM
- Disabled in game map
- Disabled proning to eliminate bugging
- Strategic infantry environments allowing for maximum action
- Custom mod icon
- Contentcrc32.con file generated for unpure servers
- Created one map, ''Labyrinth_Pro'', with TDM and Objective support

3. ANTICHEAT OPTIMIZATION

As previously mentionned, the mod has been built to prevent hackers and glitchers to slip in. As such, server hosts will have the ability to turn on Content Check while running the mod. This can be done by selecting the ''UnPure'' option in the BFSM or by selecting the ''Content Check'' option with the DedicatedServer.exe. As of right now, the Content Check feature for unpure servers works only for the map Labyrinth_Pro in the TDM and Objective GPM exclusively.

4. MOD FILES

When the final build of the mod will be released, complete modding files for those that would like to create their own custom map packs and modifications of the mod will be released. This includes LST (.lst) and CFG (.cfg) files for Battlecraft 1942 as well as a bfdev folder complete with the 4 default Arhives folders (bf1942, Objects, standardMesh, Texture) for the modders that prefer using Editor42.

How about a porn downloader while you play BF1942

A final version of the mod should be made before making events. Would draw more people to them.

Should've made the server no-key, can't join...

The mod isn't done yet as I'm still porting weapons over from different mods. Right now I have the Bren LMG, Stengun, Breda and CommandoKnife ported in the mod. Still need to port the Shotgun and Gewehr42.

@col.HT: It is. I know Desert Combat/DCF definetly has a Search and Destroy game mode, which is the same as Objective Mode by the way (so the scripting is the same). They just named their Objective Mode ''Search and Destroy'', but it's the same really.

This is a custom Objective game mode I scripted for a map called ''The Man In The Wall'', originally made by Smig.

The map is part of a mod called BattleInf 1942 which is an infantry-only mod I'm working on. Some features include disabled proning, disabled mini-map, smaller crosshair for all weapons and removed ammoboxes, wrenches, landmines and medpacks. Most kits only have 1 nade, and I will give server hosts the liberty of disabling them entirely.

The map is, I would say, around 70% finished right now. It is a ''spawn once'' map, meaning both sides only spawn once with no possibility to respawn during matches.

The time limit, which is set to 4 minutes, has been synchronized to the attackers' tickets (the Allies) bleed rate, so both hit 0 at the same time. The Allied side must find it's way through the labyrinth and destroy the doors in order to reach the center of the labyrinth where the safe is hidden. The Axis must protect the safe from the enemy's explosives, and keep them a bay long enough so their tickets run out.

I plan to release a map side version of the map in a future release, so players can drag and drop it in their Levels folder. For now it will be part of my BattleInf 1942 mod.

Good initiative Butcher, I will test this mod once I get the chance. If you're talking infantry then I'd like to work with you. PM me for details.

Forgive me if I'm out of touch with the competitive scene in BF1942, but where did GUN go? Since when did they leave the Liga?

Well then let's just hope the noobs of today will hang on to BF1942 long enough to replace all the aging veterans. Remember that in 2002, most if not all the players on the SiMPLE forums and other established communities were exactly like the sea of noobs found on the Origin and hybrid servers today. With years of experience they learned to master the game.

However, I insist that the communities that saw the birth of Battlefield 1942 set a list of guidelines and settings for servers in order to preserve a quality clientele, as you've mentionned in your post.

CD Version, v1.61, PunkBuster, Pure servers in Vanilla and the XPacks (RTR + SW), UnPure servers with PB for mods (DC, FH, FHSW, etc). That way the old schoolers can regroup more easily instead of accumulating ridiculous 6-7 KDR statistics in the Origin/Hybrid servers.

#3228 Re: Feedback » Merging RTR & SW server with 60 slot server » 2013-11-17 23:05:40

Just to fly the Flettners on Raid on Aghelia, I would install the SW Xpack.

#3230 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Battlefield 1942 FREE on Origin! » 2013-11-17 20:43:55

More than 1000 people playing the game at 13h30 EST (GMT -5) today, quite impressive. It seems this game, somehow, is regaining activity slowly but surely. Origin really did some good after all.

48 people? You're too optimistic for a first event. I think 20 to 24 players would be more realistic, but if you can pull off more, then props.

#3238 Re: BF1942 Discussion » Leans in Battlefield 1942? » 2013-10-13 21:15:19

I'm talking about whether it's even possible to create such a modification, like if the game's engine would support leans.

What you say in your post is true. To be successful, the leans would have to be implemented in a much bigger infantry modification with a variety of other features though.

I don't know how many people on the forums have played Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix. The image I posted above is from a client-side mod called ICS for this game. If you look at the soldier closely, you will see he is leaning to the left. Yeah, it's hard to see from this perspective, but if you tilt the image 90 degrees to the right, you would see the soldier's gun inclined at a 45 degree angle to the left while he is hidden at 90% by the wall (from a 1st person view).

In Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix, a player can lean left and right while standing and crouching. This offers huge strategic advantages, since you can hide almost your entire body behind a crate or wall and only have the tip of your gun visible to the enemy, while at the same time still being able to see them.

Now, from a modders perspective, this would be quite interesting to implement into Battlefield 1942. My best bet would be to replace an already existing infantry "movement" by the leans. For example, replace the ability to prone (which slows down the game drastically and provides exaggerated accuracy to the player) with the ability to lean left and right. In the Infantry Controls menu inside the game, two movement controls would have to be eliminated in order to do this.

Of course, new animations would have to be made in third and first person, but I think the most challenging thing would be to make the gun tilt at a maximum angle of 45 degrees left or right and make it look nice to the eye. It's probably similar to the "third person crosshair" debate, but a bit less complex in my opinion.

Share your thoughts here about the possibility of implementing this into Battlefield 1942. Do you think it would be a nice asset, or that it can even be done?

#3240 Re: BF1942 Events » SiMPLE BF1942 Knife Tournament » 2013-10-13 17:31:39

We need more events like this.

If you want to attract A LOT of people for future cups, think about some prizes for the winners, for example, free web/server hosting for a month. That will give more people incentive to join your event, as it is already a dying game.

Tournament matches should always be done weekends as well. More people are available then (i.e., BF Liga). It's also a good thing to advertise for your cup on Xfire.
