It does mean it will be fucking expensive and useless for home users. Even if you will get gigabit speed broadband, it doesn't mean you can download everything from everywhere at such a speed. It's like to buy a sport car to drive it at countryside offroad.

Nameless, gigabit fiber internet will be available where I'm moving to. It's normally like $80 but I'll get a discount and it'll be only like $10 or so more than the regular speed that comes with the centurylink tv package stuff. Is it worth the extra $10 or so? Will I notice a huge difference as a home user?

Its good for downloading torrents, how fast is the "regular speed" ? somewhere around 25-50 mbps would be ok i think.

Judging by the current exchange rate, I pay 5 USD per month for 100 Mbit/s connection. I don't know how it's possible to get 1 Gbit/s for 10 USD. Even if it's possible, you won't notice a huge difference as a home user because, for example, when you download something from some website, it's incoming traffic for you, but the website probably can't upload files or its resources for your computer with such speed. Hence, the whole broadband potential is in vain. You can feel the difference only if you download stuff from P2P networks like BitTorrent where you get files from a lot of sources peer by peer, but I think it's quite useless for home users, 100 Mbit/s is quite enough I guess. I usually wait 3 minutes to download a new film to watch. Will you be satisfied to be able to download the same film in 18 second? This gigabit connection would be useful for companies which have something to host on their servers. Something like websites, ftp-server etc. It will be also useful to get such connection to build fast VPN between remote offices.

Its a great offer, the thing they usually do (here in sw) is that they let clients share one routerpoint so its a "best case scenario" and often you can find some finprint about it in the agreement.

I cant really say whats best for you, but if 10 bucks more doesnt matter much, then i say go for it.

Regular price is $80. I get a discount through my school and then the company also offers a native American discount.

Depending on ISP, my internet goes throw telias "internet backbone" first up to Stockholm and there from back out to europe, so all of us share this connection and maximum bandwith.

It could be worse tho, Norway is buying up a lot of internet providers here, and so they route all that traffic to Norway first as they have there own backbone carrier

Telias? The more I get, the more I do not understand. I don't understand why do they need to run all the traffic through all these home users? The route should be reliable with high-capacity network devices and optical fibres. What these home users could afford for themselves? Cheap D-Links?

Not exactly D-Links, the city net has a certain capacity but they simple sell over that capacity, they know most people dont use full speed all the time. I think i use maybe 1% tops of my actual internet speed.
