Hi all. Due to recent interest in hosting another competitive event, I have decided to host a dogfight tournament. It is my honest opinion that cups and tournaments bring more life in the game and that more should be hosted. As such, I have decided to host more small to medium scale cups in the coming months. There will be at least one other DF cup as well as an infantry cup coming up but that's not yet confirmed.
The DF cup will take the form of a 1v1 with the usual rules of engagement. Those rules will be explained here more in details once I am familiar with them, but if someone knows them, please PM me or reply to this topic.
Players can choose the map of their liking for the 1v1, it can be League DF maps or vanilla maps. Server and map choice must be agreed on by both players. The 50/50 rule will be applied, meaning if an American player fights a player from Europe, there will be one match in the American player's server of choice and the other in the European server. If one player doesn't have a server to play on, both matches will be played on a server agreed on by both contestants.
Matches will consist of one round per plane, i.e., player A starts with Spitfire in round 1 and plays with BF109 in round 2 and vice versa for player B. Matches will be no longer than two rounds. Since some dogfights can take a lot of time, score limit to win a round is set to 5.
I have decided to host a cup with 16 contestants. Sign-ups are first come, first served. The cup will be a double elimination knockout tournament with a winners and losers bracket.
I'm open to different suggestions for cup systems.
Current sign-ups for the tournament
SleveN
hanzee_panzee
LL22
Sonic
joint
gio
Viitapiru
Jazzy
dikzak
Néroné
Maxwell
Beyazz
Sommarel
Chibi
KarlsoN
sharp
Possible (yet to confirm) cast
Whoopz
*VERY IMPORTANT! It is your responsibility to play your cup matches. I will not be the police and run after people to beg them to play their cup matches. If you don't show up for your match, then your opponent wins by forfeit, no exceptions. There will be no rescheduling of matches, except in the event where both contestants cannot make it.
For any questions regarding the cup, please PM me. Since this is a 1v1 tournament, there is no need for complicated sign-up forms. If you are interested, just say so by replying to this thread and I will add you in the list of confirmed sign-ups.
EDIT: SIGN UPS ARE CLOSED. THE TOURNAMENT HAS STARTED ON JANUARY 24TH, 2016.

i dont get rules about plane choice.
imo we should use standard league ladder rules.
2 maps (pool: df_bfvsyak, df_bfvsmustang, df_zerovscorsair, df_bfvsspit)
4 rounds (round time dunno; 10-15 minutes?)
Or you can use Tuesday's CTF alamein as well. your problem is the score / result counting, but mamba made them clear pretty much. However you will need a spectator to observe i think..

I wouldn't mind playing but I don't think you guys would want to play between 7:30 and 11:30 eastern US... so I'll sit this out.

That would take too much time and as I've already said, downloading those maps for those that don't have them is useless since we can have all planes added server-side in El Al or any other map. Basically there is no need to have 4 rounds or even two if both players play with their planes of choice (ex. If Player A likes the BF109 and player B likes the Spitfire, their match will be only one round. If Player A likes the BF109 but player B prefers the Corsair or the Yak, then there will be one round with Player A using BF109 and Player B using Spitfire, then, in the second round, Player B will use his plane of choice (Corsair) while Player A uses the corresponding plane in the pair, so the Zero.
I can add additional plane pairs such as Mustang/BF and BF/Yak9 since those haven't been added in the plane picking stage.
Round time is still set at 15 minutes.
Still one more contestant is needed!

Well I'm sure you can come to an arrangement of some sort with them. I'll add your name to the list just in case.

Please no, these are very uneven plane pairs. Spit/109 and zero/sair are the most common and even pairs.
Alright I'm in. When does this start?
The rules of this tourn. should be considered as following:
Player 1: Choose e.g. (Spitfire-109) - The participants will fly the two planes in order to make it fair since some planes are more OP. than others. I start off with Spitfire and beat viita 5-2 or (2-5) - if you want to count the deaths instead which sometimes make it more accurate. After first round we swap planes and repeat. Let's say I beat Viita 10 to 7 or 7 to 10. Result will be (1) - (0) to me in my plane of choice.
Player 2: Choose e.g. (Corsair-Zero) Repeat all the steps above and if viita beat me on his plane of choice you sum up the scores together and the winner who has less deaths will climb up the ladder.
This is the most common rule and since you're allowed to pick the mustang no one will be able to take advantage of it.
Crashes should count primary, but if BOTH players agree not to, it's up to them to decide. It requires skill to avoid crashes.
I know some dogfights out there can last up to 10 minutes and four rounds (+20 kills) in total might be a little bit too much. One game shouldn't last more than an hour as its' limit. I personally agree to round down to 12 kills in total: (3) + (3) + (3) + (3)
romsharp added.
The tournament will start after I have matched the players in the winning bracket. If everyone agrees with SleveN's rules we will do it that way.
So basically the tournament can start as soon as today when the contestants have contacted their opponents.
Ye let's go with it but drop the mustang-109, 109-yak. I can tell that in case of even pilots the guy flying the stang/yak will always beat the 109. So those rounds would very likely always end in a draw 3-3.
THE TOURNAMENT HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED! YOU CAN VIEW YOUR OPPONENT HERE: http://challonge.com/aceshigh2016
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR OPPONENT ASAP VIA PM TO SET A DATE AND TIME YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE YOUR MATCH!
Nice! Thanks Mamba and have fun all!
Nice good luck all
have fun!!
Don't forget to tell me when the date and time of your match is, so I can tell it to Whoopz who will do the shout cast.
Anyone down to do a live broadcast of the fights?
server? ip? password?
Good luck!
SleveN, jazzy, Sonic, joint, KarlsoN, Viitapiru, Chibi and gio will advance to next round. No disrespect to the rest, just my humble prediction.
Having someone to cast the match seems to me unnecessary, you can rely on event logs, to count kills, deaths and crashes. And I am sure everyone will honor the final scores, because there is no prize money involved, it is all for the fun and fame.

See my post explaining the rules for the servers

Well, let's be honest here. I know nothing about planes, I know something about tanks though!

That's why I told you guys it's look like a joke - tanker commenting dogfights, no offence to you Whoopz, you was good on tank one.
Btw, any tank cups planned?

Nope, next cup will be 3v3 infantry cup. You missed my 2v2 nations cup in tanks, which was in 2014. Maybe I will host one after the infantry cup, we will see.
Wish I coulda seen this before it closed.
Here's a throwback, circa 2008 I believe. I hosted it. Good times.
