Today I tried recording my gameplay with programs:
Fraps,
Xfire,
DxTory,
Action!,
Bandicam
...all suck arse. I read that dxtory is good, but i couldn't get it working properly. Or videos were too big , or it crashed.
With other progs I tried different settings and codecks. Or my game slows down or video is gettin' crappy. The golden middle in this case is a crappy middle with neither of 2.
Sooo, was wonderin' maybe we can get this thread sticky and choose a cool prog with bf1942 settings that make a good recording.
Bandicam was on 15 fps , 50%quality, half size capture. I felt it when rec was on and video was pretty poor.
Specs are:
Intel Pentium 2800.
4GB ram.
Videocard Nvidia GeForce9500 Gt

You have an old computer, no wonder you cannot record video without a huge frame drop. Play in 800x600 resolution and use x264 codec with Ultrafast and Zero latency options selected.
I re-downloaded Dx-tory program and changed a few settings.. I can make a pretty much normal video capture without a big fps drop.
This program is by far the best. (for me)
Dxtory is a very good game recorder. Tested it and game sound recording works without any needed changes, that is a plus.
MSI Afterburner and Bandicam can also record without a big fps drop.
Bandicam was fine, but maybe my PC is a bit oldschool for it, cause i've tried all of the settings and codec combinations and it still was a bit slowing my bf42 ingame.
I would give it the 2ND place from the list I tried!
MSI Afterburner\
I didn't even install it. Seen a few screens on the net and got scared of it's interface. xD

you can use this
Just tested out shadowplay, it does work great:

Whoever wrote the geforce experience UI needs to be taken out and flogged. Heck, whoever came up with the name, "geforce experience" needs to be flogged.
Small note, be sure to check the box labeled, "Allow desktop capture"

Did you set up hot keys for recording or do you have to get out of game and start recording or what....
and what optimization did GeForce find for bf1942? meoowwww

Geforce has no optimizations for bf1942. The program has two hot keys related to recording. alt-f9 will start and stop recording, alt-f10 will record the last N minutes of gameplay. So you can just leave it running all the time and if something cool happened, just hit alt-f10.
sweet thanks....will try it out next time that Oscar/Winston/Pleaides guys are playing...oh wait...I should record Ms.Piper!!!! yah that's the ticket.
lol u wont find anything exciting recording me unless u hack into my onboard web cam on lappy

Oh Monky getting my upside down KDRs on video will solidify my reputation here.
I really need the boost.

sorry I can't accommodate you on the video Pleiades53......My laptop doesn't have sufficient memory....to record an entire map...
blahahahhahahhaha
OBS on Twitch is really simple for streaming these days; you just need good internet. BF1942 is tricky though, because it's old. You can't select game capture; I use monitor capture. You also have to run the game in windowed mode so the resolution isn't fudged up and therefore recording part of your desktop while you play. But I did just find a workaround to get it into full screen mode. It lowers my FPS but I still reg all right while streaming.

You can use game capture mode with BF1942, latest Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) supports DirectX 8 games. I tested it and it works, with some few tricky configs. OBS is an easy way to record or stream your BF1942 gameplay.
Orly? I do have the latest OBS. I couldn't get it to work in game mode. Maybe I need to tweak some settings...!
So far, I've had the most stable recording on windowed BF monitor capture mode. In full-screen BF monitor capture mode, I get this choppy recording as though it's threatening to alt+tab out or something. I'll mess around and see if I can get it in game mode. Thanks!
Here is what you need to do: run OBS as Administrator, then in game capture mode tick "Stretch image to screen" box and in Settings > Video select Custom resolution and type the resolution you play in BF1942. I play in 1024x768. Test recording a video or click preview stream and it should work. After that, you can untick "Stretch image to screen" box.
If you plan to record a video and not stream it, you can untick in Settings > Encoding the "Use CBR" box to improve quality of encoding video.
Hello Linux people, have you been able to successfully record any BF1942 gameplay with the programs that are available for Linux? I haven't, so I was wondering if you guys could give me some hints as to what I might be doing wrong. Thank you..
Hmm, I tried your settings. It shows up as a black screen still. I must be missing something.
I've tested in 2 different computers with Intel HD graphic cards and it works. Most importantly, is to make sure you run OBS as administrator and use a custom resolution exactly as your BF1942 resolution. Can someone else test recording BF1942 with OBS in game capture mode?

I haven't tested in Linux, but there is: https://obsproject.com/download#linux
Thanks, tuia, I'll give it a shot.
Been trying to stream with OBS as well, can only get it to work in window mode, game crashes with the game capture options. Been thinking about adding an overlay so you just cant see those parts of the window and it would still look full screen ;O

That's weird because my BF42 has only a little fps drops from time to time streaming with OBS. And the game capture works fine. All I had to do was go to Sources > and check "Capture any full screen application" then chose BF42 in the drop down menu, and changed window match priority to "executable name". And only time I crash with these settings is when I alt-tab out of the game for some time. I am also using OBS Studio, are you using the old version or new version? I believe OBS Studio is the newest version
