They know who you are anyway. But you are not paranoid. FB is collecting information about people... a good reason not to use it.

they gather numbers to improve their means of influence on people minds
looking other way, in the past people couldnt communicate with each other on lever of toodays, and crowd always makes powers nerve, riot can be conceived easly if ppl see that their leaders are assholes, there are many examples in newer history of it, so they know "they" may be in danger too
