You can download GameRanger (http://www.gameranger.com/) and you can host a server using it, and anyone who has the game can play. It supports hundreds of games, and BF1942 will work after June 1. You can add Friends on it, so it is similar to GameSpy Arcade. The problem would be to get everyone playing BF1942 now to move over to it, but I suppose we could get a good amount of people to do so if it is required. I set up a room for 5 minutes and one person joined (you can only join rooms if you have the game installed).
Check it out if you want.

That's a big problem, most BF1942 players especially new players use in-game server browser. After 31 May, it will lock their computer when they click MULTIPLAYER > INTERNET button and they will think they can't play BF1942 online anymore.
Any game server browser is preferable to BF1942's in-game one. I like Qtracker, however there are plenty of alternatives: Xfire, GameRanger, HLSW, GT Lite and also -=PFC=-Toolbox.
It would be great if all major BF1942 server hosts would put alternative ways to scan servers / play the game on their homepage. Unfortunately it appears EA will not save the game, and thus I will never spend another cent on them due to their utter failure to save the game.
If possible....a server message could be displayed in game... For public player .... To download an alternative like gameranger...or ne other alternatives...(like making shortcut with server ip)

it is from another server forum but i think keeping up bf1942 is more important it has got some alternative ways to play the game after the shutdown
sorry if you didn't like it
